Hyundai is aiming its next-generation 2024 Santa Fe at the adventure-ready buyer thanks to a rugged, boxy new look and a more capacious interior.
Now officially revealed after images of the large SUV leaked online yesterday, the fifth-gen Santa Fe follows the Staria, new Kona, Tucson and Ioniq electric cars in adopting a futuristic, sci-fi-like aesthetic and will land in local showrooms in the first half of next year.
The boxy redesign has allowed Hyundai to “maximise rear cargo capacity and better accommodate outdoor and urban activities”, though exact volume details of the large SUV have not yet been revealed.
What is known is that the new model features a longer wheelbase than the current car (2765mm), which should also liberate more room for passengers inside, while the tailgate is also wider to make loading and unloading gear much easier.
In fact, Hyundai admits that “the latest outdoor lifestyle trends” have informed the styling of the fifth-generation Santa Fe, which means a more capable and more rugged ‘go-anywhere’ model.
With the second- and third-row seats folded down, Hyundai is boasting “class-leading interior space”, while equipment that can be glimpsed include dual wireless smartphone chargers, drive terrain selector, dual-zone climate control, steering column-mounted shifter, Land Rover-like two-tone steering wheel, and a curved 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and multimedia display.
Throughout the exterior, the new Santa Fe incorporates a H theme, which can be found on the head- and tail-lights, front grille, front bumper, and – of course – the badge.
As a more rugged take on the Hyundai SUV formula, the new Santa Fe also features squared-off wheelarches for a more confident and squat look.
Shorter overhangs also mean the Santa Fe should be pretty capable when navigating tough terrain, and available wheel sizes go up to 21 inches.

Powertrain options are yet to be revealed, but the press photos show a ‘2.5T’ and ‘HTRC’ badges, which denote a 2.5-litre turbocharged engine (possibly the same engine found in the Genesis G80, GV70 and GV80 that produces 224kW/422Nm) and all-wheel drive.
More details are expected to follow next month, and information like Australian pricing and specs should surface closer to the new Santa Fe’s launch.
