We list everything we think you should know about both the Mercedes-AMG A35 derivatives.
In this article:
Is the Mercedes-AMG A35 a good car?
The Mercedes-AMG A35 comes in both hatch and sedan form and serves as a dynamic and sporty option for enthusiasts of either body style. With its reputation for being a good premium option in both those segments, the A35 is indeed a good car.
Who is the Mercedes-AMG A35 a good car for?
The Mercedes-AMG A35 is a good car for individuals or small families that don’t just want a car to take them from point A to point B. Instead they prefer a car that offers character and sporty performance to make every drive an occasion.
Is the Mercedes-AMG A35 a good first car?
If the premium price tag isn’t a hurdle, the A35 do offer a host of standard safety systems and an intuitive driving dynamic that first-time car owners will easily adapt to. However, considering the high performance on offer from the engine, we would recommend completing an advanced driving course.
Is the Mercedes-AMG A35 a good family car?
While both the hatch and sedan are built on the same platform, we reckon that the Mercedes-AMG A35 in sedan 4Matic guise with its slightly larger boot capacity will be more suitable for families.
Is there a Hybrid Mercedes-AMG A35?
At the time of writing this article, both the hatch and sedan derivatives come with a 2.0-litre, turbocharged, 4-cylinder petrol engine producing 225 kW and 400 Nm of torque. No hybrid derivatives are on offer as of yet.

What’s it like to drive?
Reviewer’s opinion
When you take the 4Matic system, the power and the adaptive suspension, this car handles like nothing else I have driven. You can go into a corner way too hot, turn it in and it just sticks to the road. It really feels like those old cartoons, you put your foot down and then the road just ribbons up behind the car or tears off the surface as you go around the corner, that is what it feels like.

Interior
What is the Mercedes-AMG A35 like inside?
The interior of the Mercedes-AMG A35 is dark and moody with the black headliner and black leather surfaces everywhere. The only contrasting areas are the brushed aluminium and piano-black trim pieces as well as the digital infotainment and instrument cluster displays. Due to the two digital displays, the interior is very minimalist in that it doesn’t have many buttons on the dashboard. However, the multifunction steering wheel does incorporate a variety of additional controls including a round dial with which you can easily switch between driving modes. Overall you do get the premium impression expected from the German automaker.
Style
The exterior, while similar to the Mercedes-Benz A-Class products, has been bolstered with a variety of sporty additions such as the more aggressive front and rear bumpers, AMG A35-specific grill, 18-inch wheels and a larger rear diffuser that hosts the two exhaust outlets. But even with these very sporty modifications, the A35 remains classy.
