The Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA was created to celebrate the Italian firm’s 110th birthday as well as to pay homage to the same nameplate of the 1960s but how does it stack up against the already mighty Quadrifoglio? Watch here.

The twin-turbo 2,9-litre V6 engine with a centrally-mounted titanium exhaust system by Akrapovič and a new ECU tune make the GTA slightly more powerful than its potent Quadrifolgio sibling, producing 397 kW power and 600 N.m of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through an 8-speed automatic transmission, with a claimed 0-100 km/h time of 3,6 seconds.
Alfa Romeo has also worked on reducing the weight of the GTA as much as possible. The doors are composed of aluminium whereas carbon fibre was used for the front bumpers, wheel arch extensions, hood, roof, and even the driveshaft.

Limited to only 500 examples for Europe, the Middle East and some African countries, with the split between the GTA and GTAm models currently sitting at around 50:50. South Africa is one of the fortunate few to have received the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA, although with a starting price of R3 899 900, they aren’t a common find.
In the other corner is the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio which has served as a worthy adversary to premium performance sedans for several years now. Developed as a rear-wheel-drive competitor for the 2016 BMW 3 Series and the 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class, the new Giulia also marks the brand’s return to its RWD roots. The Quadrifoglio was a showcase for Alfa Romeo’s excellence and an even stronger expression of performance and unmistakably Italian style. Their class-leading performance is guaranteed by the powerful, aluminum, 2,9-litre V6 Bi-turbo engine capable of unleashing 375 kW of power and 600 N.m torque.
