Special-edition Mercedes-AMG compact performance cars confirmed for launch late this year
Mercedes-Benz has confirmed two celebratory special-edition compact performance cars are heading to Australia: ‘Edition 55’ versions of the 2022 Mercedes-AMG A 45 S and CLA 45 S.
Built as part of Mercedes-AMG’s 55th anniversary celebrations, the 2022 Mercedes-AMG A 45 S Edition 55 and its CLA twin are due to arrive late this year and will feature a variety of cosmetic enhancements.
These include ‘cosmos black metallic’ or ‘digital white metallic’ body colours, exclusive side decals featuring the traditional AMG emblem and AMG rhombus design, 19-inch AMG cross-spoke forged wheels, AMG Aero package, darkened exterior trim and tailpipes, silver fuel filler cap and ‘Edition 55’ wheel centre caps.
The stealthy but aggressive exterior is paired with a not-so-subtle black and red interior featuring leather AMG Performance seats, a smattering of ‘Edition 55’ badges, red illuminated AMG lettering, black 12 o’clock marker on the steering wheel, velour floor mats with embossed Edition 55 logos and exclusive dark brushed aluminium trim with contrasting black and red accents.
A black customised AMG Indoor Car Cover will also be included in the package.
Pricing, allocation size and finer specification details are all yet to be locked in by Mercedes-Benz Australia.
The headline act for the top-spec A-Class and CLA-Class models continues to be Mercedes-AMG’s V8-slaying ‘M139’ turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine churning out 310kW/500Nm, with drive sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The standard A 45 S and CLA 45 S currently retail for $99,895 and $118,496 respectively (before on-road costs), so expect a premium to be applied to the Edition 55 models.
