If you think about it, the name works quite well. Every brand has used the spider/spyder naming convention to death for their droptop versions and since the MC20 is a step into a new future for the Italian automaker, it is only fitting that the new nomenclature follow the same thinking.
The new cabrio model, appropriately using the Italian word for sky, “represents a different concept of performance and an unparalleled multi-sensorial driving experience. When its roof is open, new possibilities become within reach.”
The model which has been teased before has cleverly used a blue and white camouflage which signifies a partially cloudy sky, as would probably be seen when driving with the top down. It doesn’t do a very good job of camouflaging the bodywork though as we can see that most of the bodywork expectedly remains unchanged with the only update up-top to accommodate for the moving cabrio parts such as the use of a double-bubble roof. We speculate that the new Nettuno V6 engine on display may be sacrificed for a stow away spot for the roof.
On the topic of powertrain, the MC20 Cielo will still make use of 3-litre twin-turbocharged and twin-spark V6 which puts out an impressive 463 kW and 729 N.m. These statistics are compliments of an F1-derived pre-chamber combustion system.
The MC20 Cielo will be built in the Viale Ciro Menotti factory with its lighter, hard-top sibling. The next model we can expect from the Italian automaker is an electric variant of the sports car after it was confirmed at its initial launch. This is expected to debut later this year although official dates have not been confirmed.
