The new Maserati Grecale, the Italian automaker’s second SUV that gets its name from a Mediterranean wind, will reach South Africa on 1 December in three specification grades.
Available in GT, Modena, and Trofeo trims at launch, each Grecale comes with its own powertrain and unique design. A fully-electric Grecale Folgore is also “on the horizon,” said Maserati, which will be the first fully-electric SUV in the brand’s history.
The order books for the new SUV are already open with first customer deliveries expected for 2023, however, the electric model is yet to be confirmed for a local launch.
Grecale specifications
The entry-level Grecale GT is equipped with a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, mild-hybrid engine delivering 224kW, while the same powerplant in the mid-level Modena generates a more substantial 246kW.
For the Trofeo-badged model, the power source is swapped for a 3.0-litre, V6 unit producing 395kW and 620Nm, allowing the Maserati a brisk 0-100km/h sprint time of 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 285km/h.
Further establishing the unique personalities of the models are exclusive launch colours for each one.
The GT sports a silky-matte Bronzo Opace hue, the Modena is painted in a three-layer Grigio Cangiante (iridescent grey), and the athletic Trofeo shines in Giallo Corse which recalls the distinct blue and yellow colours of the flag of Modena, the city Maserati calls its home.
Inside, the new SUV boasts one of the most futuristic cabins this automaker has ever designed.
Amenities include a 12.3-inch infotainment display on top of a secondary 8.8-inch panel, a third screen for the rear passengers, a digital instrument cluster, leather upholsteries, carbon fibre trims, and ambient lighting.
A 14-speaker or 21-speaker sound system is also available on the options list.
To top it off, the Grecale’s driving dynamics can be tuned through four configurable drive modes – Comfort, GT, Sport, and Off-Road – whereas the high-performance Trofeo also gets a more track-focused Corsa programme.
