Land Rover South Africa has unveiled the new Discovery, with an enhanced interior and exterior, and modern technologies as standard.
The updated seven-seater luxury SUV now has a starting price of R1,452,700 and is available to buy immediately.
What’s new
The new Discovery delivers a refreshed look through new LED headlights with lower daytime running lights, dynamic turn signals, body-coloured front fenders, a redesigned front bumper, and a gloss black panel with Discovery script at the rear.
Inside, intelligent seat fold technology will let owners configure the SUV’s seating layout through the central touchscreen, and the Remote App will keep track of things like your Discovery’s fuel status and location.
Comfort is further enhanced by longer and thicker rear seats, repositioned rear air-con vents, as well as additional power supplies.
“Even with seven seats in use, the boot provides 258 litres of luggage space and all occupants have somewhere to charge electronic devices,” said Land Rover.
This storage space can be extended to 2,485 litres with all the rear seats folded down.
Also new in the updated Discovery is a 48%-larger Pivi Pro infotainment system in the dash.
The new screen measures 11.4-inches, features a back-up battery and integrated navigation, and supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and over-the-air software updates.
“In combination with the 12.3-inch Interactive Driver Display, the new Discovery provides high-definition 3D mapping within the instrumentation, leaving the central touchscreen free to control other applications,” said the company.
An onboard Wi-Fi hotspot is also capable of linking up to eight devices, while click-and-go tablet holders in the rear seats are standard across the range.
The Land Rover Discovery range then boasts a 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating.
R-Dynamic
A new R-Dynamic model is also on offer, and gets an exclusive design provided by black exterior accents and two-tone leather upholstery with contrast stitching.
“R-Dynamic models also include Premium LED headlights which produce a colour of light that is closer to daylight,” said Land Rover.
Performance
The new Discovery range is offered with a 3.0-litre, straight-six, Ingenium petrol or diesel engine – both paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels.
The petrol variants also feature 48V mild-hybrid electric technology, said Land Rover, for enhanced efficiency, performance, and smoothness.
As a result, this powertrain develops 265kW and 500Nm, letting the Discovery P360 sprint to 100km/h in 6.7 seconds, while achieving a 9.3l/100km combined fuel consumption.
The D300 diesel model generates 221kW and 650Nm, accelerates to 100km/h in 6.8 seconds, and achieves a 7.4l/100km combined fuel consumption
Additionally, a new Terrain Response 2 system and air suspension are fitted to every new Discovery.
“The availability of Configurable Terrain Response allows drivers to fine-tune the Discovery’s throttle mapping, gearbox shift points, steering, and suspension settings to suit their preferences and requirements,” said Land Rover.
The SUV also offers ClearSight Ground View as standard, a feature that projects an unobscured view of the ground beneath the vehicle’s nose onto the central display.
