Skoda rounds off its purely electric SUV series with the Enyaq L&K. The new variant will have a maximum system output of 210 kW and a higher WLTP range of up to 570 kilometres. In addition, there are new design features and, according to Skoda, particularly extensive standard equipment.
The Enyaq L&K 85 with rear-wheel drive and the Enyaq L&K 85x with all-wheel drive will benefit from the technical update – and the Enyaq Coupé will also receive an L&K variant. By the way, L&K stands for the names of the two founding fathers Václav Laurin and Václav Klement.
The now-promised 210 kW indicate that the Skoda SUV will receive the new APP550 engine from the parent company. A few weeks ago, Volkswagen presented the new drive generation for the Modular Electric Building Kit (MEB). It delivers up to 210 kW and the eponymous 550 Nm of torque. According to Volkswagen, the rear-axle drive comprises an entirely newly developed power unit – which is supposed to offer more power with improved efficiency at the same time. VW Group Components have manufactured it in Kassel, Germany, since mid-March. The engine variant previously used in most MEB models – including the Enyaq – is known to produce 150 kW and 310 Nm.
Thanks to the APP550, the rear-wheel drive Enyaq L&K 85 can sprint from 0 to 100 kph in 6.7 seconds – almost two seconds faster than the previous rear-wheel drive Enyaq iV 80. The Enyaq L&K 85x with all-wheel drive accelerates in 6.6 seconds. According to the manufacturer, the top speed will be 180 kph. However, the electric drive is one of many technical innovations in the new Enyaq L&K. Due to the engine’s higher efficiency, the EV can go up to 570 kilometres on one charge – or 550 kilometres for the all-wheel-drive model. Moreover, battery charging time from 10 to 80 per cent is now less than 30 minutes thanks to an “optimised charging curve”.
Other features of the L&K variant include standard equipment, software and design. Notably, the new ME4 vehicle software now includes a battery preheating function, which will be rolled out to other Enyaq versions in the 2024 model year. This function can be activated both manually and automatically. In addition, the model with the ME4 software receives, among other things, new navigation maps, a restructured infotainment menu, a (according to Skoda) more intuitive operating menu for the vehicle air conditioning system, and a redesigned Virtual Cockpit and head-up display with expanded functions.
Visually, the L&K models are said to feature Platinum Grey detailing on the bumpers, diffuser and wing mirrors, body-coloured side skirts and chrome window frames, among other features. Standard equipment includes full LED matrix headlights, full LED tail lights, tinted rear side and rear windows and 20-inch wheels (21-inch alloy wheels are optional). The new model also wears the Enyaq badge on the tailgate, according to the manufacturer, and omits the “iV” name suffix, “as will all other variants of future Škoda BEV models, including the Enyaq family”, Skoda adds.
For the interior, customers have a choice of two designs: L&K Shell with beige leather upholstery is standard, and L&K Black with black leather is available at extra cost. Front seats with ventilation and massage functions, available only in the L&K version, are standard in both variants.
“In the new Enyaq L&K, we are introducing several technical upgrades that will subsequently be used in the other models of this series. […] Based on customer feedback, we added battery preheating management, which also uses navigation data. This function optimises the charging performance even in cold weather. Moreover, our new User Interface takes usability to a completely new level, making the operation of the vehicle even more intuitive,” says Johannes Neft, Skoda Auto Board Member for Technical Development.
