Fiat’s new all-electric 500e has been creating a buzz ahead of its launch this spring, but the Italian carmaker hasn’t forgotten to lavish some attention on the rest of the 500 family.
The 500 city car, 500X crossover and family-friendly 500L come with new new paint options and changes to the interior spec. They’re available to order from February and should be ready for collection later in the spring, pandemic- permitting.
The basic 500 is the baby of the bunch in terms of size, but it’s the oldest car of the three, having been launched way back in 2007.
For 2021 it starts at £13,270 in Pop trim, though regardless of whether you stick with the most basic version or go for one of the posher trims (unless it’s the very different electric 500e or hot hatch Abarth models) you’ll get the same 1.0-litre mild hybrid petrol engine with 69bhp.
Jump up to the 500 Connect and you add a 7in touchscreen, cruise control and alloys, while the retro-themed Dolcevita, costs the same £15,000 and serves up a body-colour dash, chrome trim, a sunroof and the option of two-tone paint. Want more? Fork out another £1500 and you get access to the Dolcevita Plus and its sat nav and climate control, or the performance-themed (but still only 69bhp) 500 Sport.
Elsewhere in the 500 family the 500X Pop costs £19,860 and is powered by a 118bhp turbocharged 1.0-litre engine. Push the boat out for a Connect, Cross or Sport version and you can opt for a gutsier 1.3-litre engine with 148bhp.
And finally there’s the 500L, which starts at £18,030. Like the X its range consists of the same Pop, Connect, Cross and Sport trims, but instead of a zingy modern turbocharged engine it makes do with an old 1.4-litre naturally aspirated motor making a modest 94bhp.
