Ford has announced that its Puma is officially entering the South African market before the end of 2023, asking a hefty sum of R569,900 up to R613,900 for the 1.0-litre crossover.
For this price, the new Ford is equipped as standard with amenities such as a wireless charging pad, an 8-inch infotainment system with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite navigation, keyless entry, and FordPass Connect that enables functions such as a vehicle locator, vehicle status checker, remote door lock/unlock, and remote start via a smartphone.
In the more expensive ST-Line Vignale trim, the Puma additionally offers a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, keyless start, lumbar massage front seats, a height-adjustable driver seat, a 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, and a hands-free tailgate.
Supplying power to the front wheels is a 1.0-litre, turbo-petrol motor churning out 92kW and 170Nm that is paired with a seven-speed automatic shifter.
Ford has not yet provided the fuel consumption or performance figures for this configuration, though it is nearly identical to that found in the outgoing EcoSport except for the gearbox, the latter of which reports an average fuel spend of 6.3l/100km and a 0-100km/h time of 12.7 seconds.
