MONTPELIER, Ind. – Six visits by the USAC SpeeD2 Midwest Thunder Midget group have been added to the Montpelier Motor Speedway schedule.
The traveling series, which replaced the Indiana USAC Ford Focus series in 2016, has become known for close and competitive open wheel racing. With a driver range of 15 to 65 years of age, the series offers grassroots and developmental drivers an affordable approach to Midget racing using production-based engines, along with a rules package that limits internal modifications.
According to series race directors Greg Watson and Chuck Taylor, “Montpelier has played a key role bringing regional Midget racing back to prominence in the Midwest over the past ten years and is always a much-anticipated stop on the schedule for our series’ members.”
In three Midwest Thunder Midget appearances last year, Jacob Denney scored two feature wins, while three-time series champion Aaron Leffel captured the third.
“The Midwest Thunder Midget series appreciates the opportunity to grow and expand our relationship with Montpelier Motor Speedway and is committed to delivering exciting open wheel racing action to the track’s fans,” continued Watson and Taylor.
Dates at the northeastern Indiana three-eighths-mile clay oval include April 23, June 25, July 30, August 27, September 24 and a yet to be determined Saturday in October.
