Land Rover Defender is an iconic name in the world of off-roading. It was first launched 70 years back and got its reputation from the legendary Camel Trophy competition that used to happen every year between 1980 and 2000. The Camel Trophy proved how capable the Land Rover SUVs were. Now, the Series 1 Land Rover are quite rare because most of them were abused while off-roading. Usually, teenagers go for a modern vehicle, however, the story is different here. The teenage girl is famous for being a Jeep enthusiast in her area. So, it makes sense why she is driving a 50-year-old Land Rover. She is fond of two-wheelers as well as four-wheelers.
In the video, we can see that the Land Rover Series 1 is finished in military green colour and it is still running in a good condition. The host reveals that the SUV initially came with a petrol engine but many people have swapped the petrol engine for a petrol engine because it produces more torque which is important while off-roading. So, an engine from Bolero was retrofitted to the Series 1. The engine is delivering a fuel economy of 20 kmpl. The body of the Land Rover is made from Aluminium which helps in keeping the weight down. The tyre size is 15-inches.
Land Rover launched new Defender in 2020
In 2020, Land Rover decided to bring back the iconic nameplate, it was a huge risk because it had a lot to live up to. Fortunately, Land Rover’s hard work paid off and the SUV was very well received. We also saw the new Defender in the recent James Bond movie, No Time To Die.
Many people would argue that body on frame chassis is better for off-roading but still, Land Rover decided to go for a monocoque chassis for the new Defender. This upset a lot of enthusiasts. However, the new Land Rover proved that it is better in every way. Because of the monocoque chassis, the on-road behaviour of the new Defender also improved significantly.
Land Rover still respected the old Defender so they made some throwback elements to the new Defender. There are circular LED Daytime Running Lamps and square LED tail lamps. Moreover, Land Rover also brought back “Safari Windows” for the new Defender. They also decided to keep the same naming scheme. So, the new Defender is offered in two versions. There is 110 and 90 version of the Defender. The 110 is the four-door model while the 90 is the three-door model. Land Rover is also working on an even larger 130 version which is currently under development.
Defender’s pricing in India starts at Rs. 80.72 lakhs ex-showroom and goes up to Rs. 1.22 Crores ex-showroom. The only direct rival to the Land Rover Defender is the Jeep Wrangler. The price of the Wrangler starts at Rs. 56.35 lakhs ex-showroom and goes up to Rs. 60.35 lakhs ex-showroom.
