Sequel to Maserati-powered Mostro rocks up seven years after the coupe; just five to be built
Edgy Italian stylist Zagato has unveiled its convertible follow-up to the 2015 Maserati Mostro coupe.
Featuring an evolution of the hard-top’s dramatic styling, the 2022 Mostro Barchetta Zagato Powered by Maserati, to give its official name, comes with a new rear-end design but keeps the coupe’s dramatic sculptural looks.
Under its front bonnet, there’s now the choice of either a 309kW 4.2-litre naturally-aspirated V8 or the newer 3.0-litre twin-turbo Nettuno V6 from the 2022 Maserati MC20 supercar that pumps out a mighty 463kW and 730Nm of torque.
Whichever engine, Zagato claims the Mostro Barchetta weighs less than 1200kg thanks to its full carbon-fibre monocoque.
The rear-drive Mostro also features a perfect 50:50 weight distribution thanks to engineers placing either the V6 biturbo or V8 in an optimum front-midship position.
Both engines are combined with a six-speed sequential transmission.
No performance claims have been released for the convertible, which premiered at the recent Villa d’Este in Lake Como, Italy.
Zagato has revealed that despite its combination of light weight and big power there will be no electronic driver aids, including traction control.
Key chassis points include the use of double-wishbone suspension all around with adjustable dampers, lightweight 19-inch centre-lock wheels and powerful brakes developed by AP Racing.
Confirming that it will produce just five cars, Zagato says all have been spoken for, with each car sold for an undisclosed price likely to exceed more than $3 million.
