We are so looking forward to the launch of the Maserati MC20. It’s the first supercar to come from the Italian marque since the glorious, V12-engined MC12 that dropped many jaws when it launched back in 2004.
Over the course of 2020, Maserati has released a handful of teaser images of the MC20 test mule, which isn’t representative of the final product. In fact, the test mule looks a whole lot like an Alfa Romeo 4C with extra bits of bodywork to account for the MC20s longer wheelbase.
But we’ve now got a fresh batch of spy shots that give us a good look at what the production-spec version of the MC20 will look. Despite being covered in pesky camouflage, it’s clear to see the MC20 will be drop-dead gorgeous.
Let’s start off at the front of the car. The MC20 seems to incorporate Maserati’s iconic oval grille, which is flanked by two large brake ducts. The nose of the car sits very low, which not only makes the car more aerodynamic but also improves visibility for those inside. Moving further back, we see two large air intakes to cool the car’s 621bhp twin-turbo V6 engine, which has been specially designed for the MC20.
The cladding is a little thicker at the back, but we can see that the car will sport a dual exhaust system and a shallow diffuser. Come to think of it, we’re getting some serious Corvette C8 vibes from the tail end of the MC20.
Like the MC12, the MC20 is made to go racing. The supercar will form the basis of Maserati’s customer racing programme, with the MC20 being entered int GT3 championships across the globe – where it’ll race against Ferrari 488s, Mercedes-AMG GTs and Audi R8s.
That all sounds rather exciting and, thankfully, it won’t be long before we get to see the finished product. Maserati will launch the MC20 on 9th September, and YesAuto will be there to bring you all the news – as it happens.
