Maserati’s new premium midsize SUV has finally been revealed, including a hi-po Trofeo version and a fully electric ‘Folgore’ model
The Maserati Grecale premium midsize SUV has finally been revealed in full, offering multiple powertrain variants including an electric version. The Grecale was originally set to be unveiled late last year, however it was delayed a week before the reveal.
The Grecale SUV has been confirmed for Australia and will arrive here around December 2022 or early in 2023, depending on stock availability.
Maserati’s premium midsize SUV rides on a development of the ‘Giorgio’ platform that underpins Alfa Romeo’s Giulia and Stelvio, and will be available with a range of powertrains including a mild-hybrid turbo-petrol four-cylinder, a 3.0-litre twin-turbo petrol V6, and in the future, a fully electric ‘Folgore’ edition.

Australian pricing has not yet been revealed, however the Grecale will compete with rivals such as the Porsche Macan GTS, Alfa Romeo Stelvio Q and Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S.
Available powertrains for Grecale
The ‘entry’ model of the range, the Grecale GT will be powered by a 223kW/450Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system.
The Grecale Modena will use the same powertrain but with power bumped up slightly to outputs of 246kW.

The pinnacle of the internal-combustion range will be the Grecale Trofeo featuring a twin-turbocharged 90-degree V6 packing a considerable 395kW of power and 620Nm of torque. This engine is based on the Nettuno powerplant from the Maserati MC20 supercar and incorporates pre-chamber ignition technology inspired by Formula One cars. This Trofeo model can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 3.8 seconds and reach a claimed top speed of 285km/h.
To complete the range, a ‘Folgore’ edition will be released in time that will have all-electric power with 400-volt technology. Exclusively made in Italy, the Grecale Folgore will be equipped with a 105kWh battery, and while power figures have not been revealed, Maserati says its new electric SUV can deliver as much as 800Nm of torque. The Folgore will also have an exclusive bodywork colour to help it stand out from the rest of the range.
What should we expect inside the Grecale?
In typical Maserati fashion, the Grecale’s cabin will be a place of luxurious materials and seating comfort, blended with an environment of new design and technology.
Screens control a majority of functions inside the Grecale
There are four screens inside the new Grecale including a 12.3-inch central touchscreen, driver cluster, a digital clock and a 8.8-inch ‘comfort’ panel with controls for climate and seat heating.
Maserati says that the use of screens removes the need for physical buttons and allows for a more spacious armrest.
The Grecale also features a Sonus Faber 21-speaker sound system with laser-cut metal grilles for the tweeters and mid-range speakers.

Standard features on the GT variant include Saffiano black leather upholstery, 19-inch alloy wheels (with 20-or 21-inch wheels available as options), window shades, body-coloured bumpers, a dual chrome-plated exhaust system and chrome front grille inserts.
Stepping up to the Modena brings larger 20-inch wheels as standard along with gloss black logos, front splitter and grille.
The Trofeo model goes all out with 21-inch alloy wheels, a unique sport exhaust system and carbon-fibre inserts on the front and rear bumpers, and side skirts.
Adjustable air suspension is included as standard on the Trofeo but is optional on the mild-hybrid Grecale GT and Modena variants.

Six levels of suspension adjustment can be configured by the driver. In off-road mode, the Grecale can be raised by 30mm, while Park mode can be 35mm lower than normal ride height.
Maserati says that the Grecale’s 2901mm wheelbase has allowed more space for rear passengers plus more space in the boot. The rear seats can be folded flat with the simple press of a button.
A new drive mode system, which Maserati calls the Chassis Domain Control Module (CDCM) that debuted in the MC20 supercar, is standard across the range.

Five drive modes feature in the Grecale GT and Modena: Comfort, GT, Sport, Race and Off-road.
A Corsa mode is exclusively available in the Trofeo variant that offers the driver “the most extreme experience and the option of enjoying the true embodiment of the Grecale without any compromises”.
Information on the Grecale’s safety suite is likely to arrive closer to the car’s international launch later in the year.
