The Maserati GranTurismo Electric is on track for its launch and will be on the market by the end of 2023. Along with the Grecale electric SUV, the Maserati GranTurismo Electric will form the brand’s pure electric model range. In Maserati’s FY2021 results presentation on February 23, 2022, parent company Stellantis confirmed the launch of the GranTurismo and GranCabrio EVs within 22 months.

Maserati GranTurismo Electric Design
Spy shots of the next-gen Maserati GranTurismo have been out since June 2021. A test driver drove it out of Maserati Innovation lab, onto Modena’s streets, where the spy photographers left no stone unturned in taking pictures to delve into the design details. The redesigned model will be available in ICE and electric variants.

The Maserati GranTurismo Electric is reminiscent of the Alfieri 2+2 concept shown at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. The EV also retains the silhouette of the first-gen GranTurismo, the production of which ended in 2019, and thus has a long bonnet, short front and rear overhangs, and a long wheelbase.
A close look at the prototype also reveals the indented push-button door handles like on the recently launched MC20. The shape of the headlamp units is also similar to those on the MC20. The prototype also seems to be rolling on large 20-inch aerodynamic wheels. Not much else is visible except that the Maserati GranTurismo Electric has a chrome strip at the rear, uniting the slim wraparound taillamps.
Electric Powertrain

An Automotive News Europe report dated February 17, 2022, stated that the electric Maserati Grecale would sit on a re-engineered Giorgio platform. Maserati is not waiting until the STLA platforms are ready to accelerate its EV campaign, and it looks like the GranTurismo would be its second EV on the evolved Giorgio.
Details about the powertrain have not surfaced, but an Autoblog report in 2020 stated that the brand’s new Folgore EV powertrain would feature one e-motor on the front axle and two e-motors on the rear axle and offer torque vectoring. An 800V electrical architecture is expected to provide rapid charging that approaches the charging times of the Porsche Taycan. It could offer 300 kW DC fast-charging.
Production
An official teaser uploaded on Twitter in Jan 2020 conveyed that the first electric Maserati would launch in 2021. The semiconductor chip shortage could have delayed the plan to this year. Image: Maserati/Twitter
Maserati has invested EUR 800 million (GBP 666 million) in transforming its Mirafiori factory in Italy for electric vehicles. With the brand planning to offer electric iterations of all its models, expect a large proportion of its production facility allocated to new electrified and pure electric cars. The first Maserati electric car was scheduled to arrive in 2021, but pandemic and supply issues have delayed the launch to 2022.
