Land Rover has expanded the Defender range by adding three new variants: A V8-powered 130 derivative, a new 130 Outbound model, and a County Exterior Pack for the Defender 110.
Just days after announcing that Defender would be spun off as a standalone brand, the brand is now expanding its offering.
Getting right to the meatiest model of all, the Defender 130 V8 equips the delightful 5.0-liter V8 engine with 493 horsepower on tap, giving it a 0 to 62 mph time of 5.7 seconds with three rows of seating.
Available in just two colors, Carpathian Grey or Santorini Black, the Defender 130 V8 has a sinister appearance that includes quad-outboard-mounted exhausts, a panoramic roof with black contrasting, tinted taillights, and privacy glass. Matrix LED headlights are standard, along with 22-inch wheels painted in Satin Dark Grey. V8 exterior badging sets the top model apart from the rest.
In keeping with its range-topping status, the interior is suitably plush, with four-zone climate control, a Meridian Sound System, a Head-Up Display, Interactive Driver Display, and a cabin air purification system. All three rows are trimmed in Ebony Windsor leather with Dinamica suede cloth and Robustec fabric.
Up front, the driver and passenger enjoy 14-way power-adjustable seats with heating and cooling functionalities. The second row is heated and cooled, while the third row is also heated.
The Defender 130 V8 ships with the standard 11.4-inch Pivi Pro infotainment screen that includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and OTA updates. Alexa voice AI7 provides voice control over vehicle functions while integrated what3words addressing technology allows you to find a destination even in isolated locations. Wireless smartphone charging is also standard.
Defender Outbound – Five Seats For Luxurious Adventure
But if you're an adventurer at heart, you'll be enamored with the new Defender 130 Outbound. The regular 130 offers up to eight seats, but the Outbound has just five. The cargo area takes up the rest of the cabin space, allowing owners to fill the rear up with bicycles, skis, golf clubs, or camping gear.
With all five seats in use, the Defender 130 Outbound offers 46.9 cu ft of packing space. Fold the second row flat, and a cavernous 88.8 cu ft of room for just about anything. The flat loadspace makes it practical to load heavy things into the rear.
The exterior mirrors the rugged persona of the Outbound. Four colors – Fuji White, Santorini Black, Carpathian Grey, and Eiger Grey – are on offer and matched by the body-colored rear panels and D-pillar finishes, while unique touches for this model include a rugged Shadow Atlas Matt finish for the grille and bumpers and Anthracite-colored side vents. Two wheel options are available; 20-inch wheels in Gloss Black and 22-inch items in Shadow Atlas Matt.
A Satin Protective Film is available to protect your paint from the outdoors.
Customers can choose between plush Windsor leather upholstery or a heavy-duty Resist fabric trim – both in Ebony. The cross-car beam has a powder coat brushed finish in Satin Black, and the interior trim is Robustec veneer.
Robust rubber mats cover the floor and extend into the cargo area. The mat can fold down to cover the bumper, which helps to protect the paintwork when loading heavy items into the load bay. There are several nifty storage areas and lashing points to secure equipment safely.
Two Ingenium mild-hybrid engines are offered; the gasoline-powered P400 with 394 hp and a diesel D300 – the latter unlikely to come stateside. Air suspension is standard and enhances the Outbound's impressive off-roading prowess. The Defender can wade in depths of up to 34.4 inches and tow up to 8,200 lbs.
It's unclear whether the Outbound is a limited edition like the 75th Limited Edition or a special trim package.
Defender 110 County Exterior Pack
Land Rover has also launched a new County Exterior Pack for the Defender 110. This rugged derivative takes inspiration from the original County model and receives exclusive styling elements to set it apart from the rest.
Three two-tone color combinations are available, pairing Tasman Blue with White, Fuji White, or Santorini Black. Unique County decals festoon the exterior, while the cabin is treated to illuminated County treadplates. Two 20-inch wheel designs are available, with the option for a retro Gloss White finish.
The interior can be specified in a variety of upholstery and color combinations, choosing between either durable Resist fabric, Grained leather, or Windsor leather comes – all choices in Ebony black. Select the Fuji White/Santorini Black exterior finish, and an Acorn/Lunar interior style is available. Robustec veneer decorations can be found throughout the cabin.
Land Rover says all newly-revealed Defender models are now available to order in the UK, and US details are likely to follow shortly. Hopefully, the automaker can get these vehicles to customers, as a third production shift was recently approved to keep up with Defender demand.
