Land Rover Classic has detailed its latest retro-mod project, the Defender Works V8 Trophy II.

Just 25 units of the V8-powered Defender Works Trophy II will be offered by Land Rover Classic – priced from a cool £225,000 ($391,421) in the UK, about $50,000 more than the first iteration.

Land Rover Classic has confirmed 20 builds will be a split of 90 and 110 Station Wagon bodies, with the remaining five to be 110 Double Cab Pick-Ups.

While Jaguar Land Rover Australia won’t be officially importing or distributing any of these vehicles, the local arm did confirm with CarExpert prospective customers could order one direct from Land Rover Classic via its website.

As its name suggests, the Defender Works V8 Trophy II is powered by a 5.0-litre naturally-aspirated V8 petrol engine, pumping out 405PS (298kW) at 6000rpm, and 515Nm of torque at 5000rpm.

Shifting gears is an eight-speed ZF-sourced automatic with ‘Pistol Shifter’, and the Defender Works V8 is all-wheel drive. There’s also a two-speed transfer case, heavy-duty front and rear differentials, and a torque-biasing centre diff, naturally.

Externally the Trophy II distinguishes itself from the original with its “adventure-inspired camouflage” livery, which the company says features “23 locations that have played a part in Land Rover’s illustrious off-roading and exploration adventures over more than 70 years”.

The Fuji White and Narvik Black exterior combination is accented by a satin black bonnet and black exterior detailing, finished off with Land Rover Trophy heritage badging and a bespoke black front grille. In case you forgot, the first Defender Works V8 Trophy (also limited to just 25 units) was finished in an eye-catching Eastnor Yellow.

It’s not just an engine upgrade and sticker pack though, with additional all-terrain equipment including an integrated winch on the A-frame, a 1.27-metre full-width LED light bar, rock sliders, an expedition exterior roll cage and rear recovery point.

The aforementioned satin black bonnet has been designed to reduce glare “bright conditions”, and there’s a rear ladder allowing access to the expedition roof racks.

Filling the arches are 18-inch Sawtooth alloy wheels finished in Gloss Black with mud-terrain tyres, sitting in front of servo-assisted 335mm front and 300mm rear brake discs, both with four-piston calipers.

Land Rover Classic quotes a wading depth of 500mm for the Defender Works V8 Trophy II.

Inside there are Recaro sports seats trimmed in Windsor leather, with a distinctive black-and-white colour scheme and contrast top-stitching.

There’s leather adorning the dashboard, doors and headlining too, which the company says helps to ensure “a handcrafted finish throughout”.

Whilst not pictured in the supplied imagery, there’s also Land Rover Classic’s “modern Infotainment System” which features integrated satellite navigation and “mobile device connectivity” (i.e. Bluetooth), fitted as standard.

Rounding out the cabin highlights is a bespoke Land Rover Trophy clock face by watchmaker Elliot Brown, featuring a special face that mirrors the exterior camouflage design. Buyers will also get a matching “Competitor’s Edition timepiece”, though if you don’t manage to get your hands on a Defender Trophy, 1000 watches inspired by this vehicle will be offered for public purchase.

The Defender Works V8 Trophy II will be “created using Defender models from 2012-2016, stripped and rebuilt by hand to exacting standards and improved high specifications, developed exclusively by our dedicated team at Land Rover Classic”.

Current owners of classic Defenders that want to enhance their own vehicle to look like the Works V8 Trophy II will also soon be able to purchase Trophy Influenced Genuine Accessories through Land Rover Classic, with further details to be confirmed later in 2022.

All derivatives are available to order now direct from Land Rover Classic.
