When the Koenigsegg Gemera first launched, it was powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that could produce 1,683bhp. Now, Koenigsegg launched the Client Specification Gemera with an even more powerful powertrain, dubbed ‘Dark Matter’.
Initially, Koenigsegg was planning to use their Direct Drive System in the Gemera, as they did in the 2020 Gemera show car and in the first few running prototypes. During the development stages, the Light Speed Transmission (LST) was decided to be used on the Jesko.
The LST gets rid of the flywheel and clutch which enhances the driver engagement, excitement, and car’s performance. Christian von Koenigsegg, the founder and CEO of Koenigsegg said, “We could not resist exploring the possibility of incorporating these remarkable features and benefits into the Gemera production model, leading us down an exciting new development path – the Light Speed Tourbillon Transmission (LSTT)”
The ‘Dark Matter’ electric motor was developed to get the most out of the LSTT and the engine. The motor produces around 792bhp and 1250Nm of torque through a Radial Flux e-motor. One motor is paired with the LSTT instead of the earlier 3 Quarks E-Motor with Direct Drive.
By doing this, Koenigsegg managed to reduce the weight and dimensions of the drivetrain, resulting in a more captivating feel while driving. The LSTT’s four-wheel drive system with four-wheel torque vectoring can be powered by the Dark Matter motor or the twin-turbo TFG, or both, with an output of 1,386bhp and 1850Nm of torque.
The Koenigsegg Gemera HV8 (Hot V8) takes the OG Gemera to another level altogether. With the incorporation of the LSTT, enough space was available to fit a V8 engine in the car. But, the Gemera HV8 is nothing but the Jesko V8 with the only difference being the exhaust exits at the top-centre.
The powertrain of the Gemera Hot V8 produces 1,485bhp from the V8 engine and an additional 792bhp through the Dark Matter e-motor, resulting in a total output of 2,277bhp and 2,750Nm of torque. These figures help bag Koenigsegg a world record for the most powerful production car.
“The Gemera HV8 is not only the most powerful and extreme production car on the planet Earth, with an astonishing 1,11 hp per kg, but it is also the most practical and user-friendly sports car ever created,” said Christian.
He went on to say, “We are extremely proud to have brought the Gemera HV8 to life and very much look forward to delivering this new level of performance and technology to our esteemed clients and fans.”
Thoughts On The Koenigsegg Gemera HV8
The Koenigsegg Gemera HV8 is the most powerful production car till date and Koenigsegg have put the effort into making it that. However, we won’t get a chance to get a feel of the car anytime soon as production will commence at the end of 2024 and deliveries will start in the beginning of 2025.
