The Swedish supercar company is adding a further run of 20 cars to complement the 50 examples that sold out during Monterey Car Week.
KoenigseggKoenigsegg’s CC850 was arguably the star of the show at Monterey Car Week. With stunning looks and a trippy manual transmission from the future, we’re not ones to argue. Buyers seem to think so too, because the car has already sold out of its initial production run of 50 units. The CC850 proved so popular that Koenigsegg is adding another 20 cars to the production run.
The Swedish supercar maker said in a statement Thursday that demand for the CC850 was so high at Monterey that not even some of Koenigsegg’s most loyal buyers had a chance at snagging an allocation, much less customers new to the brand. So it asked a handful of “long-term clients” with allocations whether it would be alright if production numbers were raised so others could get a shot at ownership. Responses were “positive,” according to Koenigsegg, so 20 more cars will be built.
“The response to the CC850 is overwhelming,” founder Christian von Koenigsegg said in a statement. “Producing an additional 20 on top of the planned 50 CC850s is still not even close to demand, but it gives us the chance to consider the brand loyalists to a larger degree, while also welcoming a small portion of new owners.”
It’s unclear if the additional CC850s have been spoken for. Considering how quickly the original set sold out, we wouldn’t be surprised if they’re already sold.
