Kia recently introduced the Carens at an astonishingly competitive price in a bid to take on the Maruti Suzuki XL6 head on
The Kia Carens joins the niche party of premium compact MPVs currently ruled by Maruti Suzuki XL6. We compare the two to find out which one is the better deal.
Overview
The Maruti Suzuki XL6 came in 2019 based on the tried-and-tested formula of Ertiga, but with a dash of style and SUV design elements. Three years after that, Kia has brought in the Carens in the same space, with a wide choice of variants and powertrains to meet more diversified requirements of modern buyers.
Kia Carens vs Maruti Suzuki XL6
With the Carens, Kia is offering a more modern take on premium compact MPVs, a space that has a limited number of players but is witnessing a high demand for the versatility and practicality they offer. Has it got the edge over its direct rival, the Maruti Suzuki XL6? Let’s find out.
Exterior Design
The initial starting variants of the Carens get a competitive price tag
It is evident from the body cladding all around, front and rear skid plates, and roof rails in both the MPVs.
Both Kia Carens and Maruti Suzuki XL6 are three-row MPVs trying hard to look as rugged and stylish as any other midsize SUV.
Maruti Suzuki XL6 gets essential features
In terms of design elements on the outside, both the MPVs here come with LED headlamps, fog lamps, and tail lamps. But then, the Kia Carens has an edge over the Maruti Suzuki XL6, as the former also offers a stretched LED light bar between the tail lamps and more stylish 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, compared to the 15-inch black alloy wheels on the XL6. Also, given that the XL6 has remained unchanged for three years now, the Kia Carens enjoys the novelty factor over the former, which makes it more appealing to look at.
