The Indian automotive industry started 2021 on a positive note with some interesting new products hitting the market. However, the COVID-19 second wave and chip shortage stifled the growth last year, despite several impressive cars hitting the market. But, now, with COVID cases still in control and chip shortage expected to ease off from Q2 2022, automakers are attempting to stimulate the market with several new launches. The first month of 2022 witnessed the launch of a few important cars and this product offensive will continue in February 2022 as well as several new cars are slated to go on sale in India next month. Let’s take a look at some of the upcoming cars in February 2022.
1. Maruti Suzuki Baleno facelift
Maruti Suzuki Baleno facelift is expected to be launched next month and several leaked images suggest that the Indian carmaker has also started manufacturing the new premium hatchback. In its new avatar, the Baleno will come sporting a handful of cosmetic tweaks like redesigned headlamps and tai lights, wider grille, and new design for the alloy wheels. The new model will also feature a new interior layout and features such as a floating touchscreen. 2022 Baleno facelift will be available with the existing 1.2-litre four-cylinder engine that can generate up to 88 bhp with 115 Nm of peak torque.
2. Kia Carens
Kia Carens was revealed in December last year and became available for bookings in India a few weeks ago. It will be available across five variants and with a choice between two seating styles. This upcoming three-row Kia MPV will be available with a choice between two petrol powerplants and a diesel engine. A rival to the likes of Hyundai Alcazar, MG Hector Plus, and even Mahindra XUV700, the Carens will come equipped with a plethora of features, including six airbags, vehicle stability management, highline tyre pressure monitoring system, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, front ventilated seats, sunroof, multiple driving modes, etc.
3. Audi Q7 facelift
2022 Audi Q7’s price in India will be revealed on 3 February, 2022. The facelifted Q7 will come sporting some key design changes like the redesigned grille, sleeker Matrix LED headlamps, redesigned LED tail lights, dynamic turn indicators, etc. It will draw power from a 3.0-litre, V6 petrol engine that will develop 335 bhp and 500 Nm. Needless to say, the new Q7 will come equipped with a raft of new provisions, such as four-zone automatic climate control, Audi Virtual Cockpit, Bang and Olufsen sound system, large touchscreen, and more.
4. MINI Cooper SE
MINI”s first fully-electric car became available for bookings in India in October last year and the first batch was sold out in just two hours after the opening of bookings. MINI Cooper SE will have a 32.6 kWh battery pack powering an electric motor to develop 181 bhp and 270 Nm of peak torque. This configuration lets the EV sprint from zero to 60 km/h in 3.9 seconds while 100 km/h speed is achieved in 7.3 seconds. MINI Cooper SE will offer a riding range of up to 234 km (WLTP) on a single charge.
5. Lexus NX 350h
Lexus is expected to launch the second-generation NX 350h in India next month and opened its order books for the SUV earlier this month. It is the second generation model of the NX SUV and was globally unveiled last year. In its new avatar, the NX 350h gets some design changes that make it appear more aggressive than the outgoing model. The NX 350h is expected to be made available with a 2.5-litre petrol engine with a 259V lithium-ion hybrid battery pack. This configuration can churn 240 bhp in combination with electronically controlled CVT transmission. This upcoming premium UV will have features such as 10-inch head-up display, automatic climate control, Digital Key, radar cruise control, road-sign assist, and an optional 14-inch touchscreen.
