Maserati wants to preserve the life of its classic models.
Next year, Maserati will reveal the Grecale SUV, a model that is likely to significantly boost the brand’s sales since it slots in below the larger, pricier Levante. But the company hasn’t forgotten its illustrious past and the vehicles that made it famous.
That’s why the Maserati Classiche program has officially begun. Much like Porsche’s Classic division, Maserati Classiche exists to support the preservation of Maserati's classic models, most of them older than 20 years. To mark the occasion, the first Maserati to receive an official certification of authenticity is a Mistral 3700 built in March 1969.
For collectors looking to add even more value to their classic Maseratis, the certification of authenticity is a big deal. In the case of the Mistral, it earned this honor by undergoing over 300 checks and a thorough verification, matched against documents kept in the brand's Historical Archive.
“The Certification process is guaranteed by a committee of experts and is offered for Maserati cars from more than 20 years ago plus the special series, including those from the recent past such as the MC12 and the Quattroporte limited editions.”
The Classiche program goes beyond just the certification process, though. Maserati will also offer an on-demand car detailing service, routine maintenance, and minor in-house repairs. Of course, customers can also have their cars restored to their former glory.
Next year, Maserati aims to manufacture spare parts that are no longer available, using modern technology but retaining the aesthetic appearance of the original parts. Honda has done something similar with the S2000 by making parts available for the beloved roadster that would otherwise be hard to come by. Maserati says that soon, parts like oil filters, body panels, and engine bearings will be available for models like the Bora, Mistral Khamsin, and Sebring.
While we're all for the brand moving forward, it's encouraging that some of its most beautiful past heroes are getting the attention they deserve.
