2013 Maserati GranTurismo MC Convertible on Cars & Bids article highlights:

  • In addition to updating the GranTurismo overall for 2013, Maserati also gave the GranTurismo Convertible the sporty MC treatment
  • One of these sporty drop-top GTs is currently listed on Cars & Bids at a below-average price
  • Although you should get a pre-purchase inspection before bidding, the Maserati GranTurismo is fairly reliable with proper maintenance and exercise

It’s close enough to the solstice, so I’m confident in calling convertible season officially open. But even if the car market wasn’t crazy right now, the great drop-top weather wouldn’t be great for your wallet. Fortunately, not all roadster prices have gone through the roof. And if you want some Vitamin D on the cheap, the 2013 Maserati GranTurismo MC Convertible listed on Cars & Bids might be a great prescription.

2013 Maserati GranTurismo MC Convertible | Maserati

2013 Maserati GranTurismo MC Convertible
Engine 4.7-liter V8
Horsepower 454 hp
Torque 383 lb-ft
Transmission Six-speed automatic
Curb weight 4350 lbs
0-60 mph time 4.9 seconds

As you can tell by the name, the Maserati GranTurismo Convertible, aka the GranCabrio, is a GT car. In other words, it’s a comfortable, stylish cruiser that can also do sports car things if the driver spots some sweet corners. Some drivers, though, were a bit more proactive about corner-spotting, yet didn’t want to lose the open-air experience. So, when it updated the GranTurismo line for 2013, Maserati also introduced the GranTurismo MC Convertible.

Like all 2013 Maserati GranTurismo models, the MC Convertible has a 454-hp Ferrari-built V8, ZF automatic, and a limited-slip differential. However, the MC’s transmission has model-specific programming. In addition, while that V8 sounds brilliant in the standard car, the MC has a sports exhaust that really brings the music. And these are just the drivetrain changes.

On the outside, the 2013 Maserati GranTurismo MC Convertible has a taller rear spoiler—made of carbon fiber—for extra downforce. Also, it’s made of carbon fiber. Its front splitter and rear diffuser reduce lift, too. Also, the MC Convertible’s front fascia includes aero wings and brake-cooling ducts. Furthermore, the drop-top rides on MC-specific 20” wheels as well as firmer springs and adaptive shocks. And in addition to redesigned sports seats, the interior features a flat-bottom steering wheel, aluminum pedals, and carbon-fiber shift paddles.

One downside of the 2013 Maserati GranTurismo MC Convertible’s fabric top is how it eats into the trunk space when it’s down. However, its three-layer design means the interior is properly quiet when it’s up. And neither you nor your three passengers—yup, it’s a four-seater—won’t care about the trunk space with that V8 soundtrack. Plus, though the suspension upgrades improve its handling, the MC Convertible does GT things just fine.

A 2013 Maserati GranTurismo MC Convertible interior | Cars & Bids

Although Maserati gave the 2013 GranTurismo MC Convertible some carbon fiber as standard, the example on Cars & Bids has a bit more. The side-view mirrors have carbon-fiber housings, for example, and there’s more inside thanks to the MC Sport Line Interior Carbon Package. However, as noted earlier, this is still a capable drop-top GT. So, it also has leather upholstery, navigation, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, and a Bose audio system.

While it’s not a one-owner car, this 2013 Maserati GranTurismo MC Convertible does have a clean, accident-free history exclusively in warm-climate areas. In addition, it has just under 31,500 miles on the clock. And apart from some scattered wear and scratches, plus a bit of touch-up paint, it’s in great shape. It isn’t exactly stock, though, as it has tinted windows, tinted headlights and taillights, Novitec springs, and ADV.1 wheels. However, the factory wheels are included in the sale.

Also, this car comes with quite a few service records. Furthermore, the seller did a lot of work during their ownership. In September 2021, for example, they replaced the battery and tested the alternator. And in August 2021 they changed the engine oil, engine air filter, auxiliary drive belt, water pump, front brake rotors, right rear shock, lower shock bushings, seat motor, and all the brake pads. They also flushed the power steering fluid, brake fluid, and coolant at the same time.

This 2013 Maserati GranTurismo MC Convertible is a bargain buy, but is it a good one, too?

As of this writing, this 2013 Maserati GranTurismo MC Convertible is listed at $35,000 with two days left in the auction. That’s a considerable discount for a car that originally started at over $150,000. And it’s roughly $24,000 cheaper than the cheapest GranTurismo MC Convertible with similar miles on Autotrader.

But while it’s cheap, some potential bidders might be worried about a used Maserati’s reliability. As always, a pre-purchase inspection is recommended. However, it’s worth noting that the ZF-automatic GranTurismo is one of the most reliable used Maseratis, especially if it has a 4.7-liter V8. Plus, the seller replaced the battery recently, which should prevent any electrical gremlins, PistonHeads muses. And while you might need a new top in the future, that’s part of owning any soft-top convertible.

So, if you want to soak up some sun in a stylish, sonorous, sporty car, this Maserati GranTurismo MC Convertible might be your inexpensive answer.
