This 1954 Fiat 1100 was retrofitted to run on electric and it now whizzes around the streets of Mumbai in silence
Fiat Millecento or 1100 is one the most popular cars around the world. Even in India, it won numerous customers. which sold as the Premier Padmini for decades.
While there are many well-maintained examples of the Fiat 1100 in India, this one is different. Autocar India in this video shows a resto-moded Fiat 1100, which is now called as E-Diggi and it is perfect for present-day city roads.
What powers the E-Diggi?
The original internal combustion engine of the Fiat was replaced to make way for an electric motor that makes a whizzing noise. In the trunk or the diggi of the car lies a 48V 10kWh battery pack. It gives the car a range of about 70 km.

Since it is a lightweight car, to begin with, the car offers perfect handling, Ruman says that this Restomod was a lot of fun to drive around town.

Not exactly but there are quite a few modern vehicles that have been retrofitted with electric powertrains. With the government’s latest decision to allow old petrol and diesel cars around Delhi-NCR if they retrofit the car with an electric powertrain will spawn a lot of such new vehicles on the roads.
However, the cost of conversion is not very inviting at the moment. The price of retrofitting such powertrains on regular cars can cost lakhs of rupees and since they are new in the market, we are not sure about the durability of such fittings.
