The reborn DeLorean company likely couldn’t afford to invest in a US$7-million Super Bowl ad, but that didn’t stop it from pushing out its first-ever teaser for its electric DeLorean EVolved on Sunday night and throwing in a #BigGame hashtag.
Football aside, classic EV conversions are shaping up to be a pretty big game, and the launch of this new battery-driven DeLorean revival, slated for later in 2022, may come at just the right time.
The EVolved, from what we can see in the teaser, isn’t just a stock ’80s DeLorean with a new powertrain, either. The now-Texas-based DeLorean has roped in ItalDesign to give the still-gullwing-doored stainless-steel car an update, and it looks like that includes an illuminated V-shaped logo in the grille, as well as possibly the addition of some more dimension to the hood.
The dark and moody teaser doesn’t tell us a whole lot besides that, to be honest, though the inclusion of a #Luxury hashtag does seem to suggest the automaker is aiming more upmarket than its forebear.

Exactly how far upmarket remains to be seen, as pricing details remain to be revealed. Powertrain specs are a mystery for now, too. There’s still a whole lot we don’t know about the DeLorean EVolved, in fact, but now we know it’s shifting things into gear, you can bet we’re keeping our eye on the space.
The modern-day DeLorean Motors Reimagined company is headed by British-born Stephen Wynne, who’s headquartered the automaker in Humble, Texas. Its bread-and-butter so far has been using the brand and name rights and surplus parts from the old company, acquired by Wynne in 1995, to manufacture aftermarket components for, and provide support to owners of, the original DeLorean DMC-12.
