Mild mid-life facelift ushers in mildest external tweaks, new transmission and overhauled infotainment
Volvo has refreshed its S60 sedan and V60 wagon with minor external tweaks, the introduction of its latest Android-based infotainment system and a new transmission that improves efficiency.
First introduced back in 2018, the mid-life refresh sees both the S60 and V60 bag a new restyled front bumper that is finished in gloss black and features tweaked new air intakes.
At the rear there’s a redesigned lower bumper that now hides the tailpipes.
Fresh six-spoke rims are present and there’s also the new option of specifying your BMW 3 Series-rivalling Volvo with either chrome or black accents.
Inside, there’s Volvo’s all-new infotainment that gets a Google Android operating system that introduces Google Maps, Google Assistant and the Google Play store.
Under the bonnet, there’s now only the choice of mild-hybrid or plug-in hybrid powertrains.
That means there’s a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder that produces 120kW (badged B3), 145kW (B4), 184kW (B5) and 220kW in the B5. All come with 48-volt mild-hybrid tech that adds 10kW and claws back energy for better efficiency under braking.
In some markets there’s will also be a 145kW 2.0-litre turbo-diesel available in the V60.
New improvements include the introduction of a new seven-speed dual-clutch automatic in the lower powered B3 and B4, although the B5 and B6 keep their eight-speed automatic.
With the dual-clutch box fitted fuel use drops around 0.3-0.7L/100km that corresponds to a reduction on CO2 emissions of up to 15g/km.
The plug-in hybrid models, meanwhile, combine the 2.0-litre turbo with either 186kW or 228kW with a 107kW electric motor, a 14.9kWh lithium-ion battery to provide for an electric range of between 75-94km.
This enables the most powerful T8 version to sprint from 0-100km/h in just 4.3 seconds, although the top speed remains limited to 180km/h, like every other Volvo in the range.
Pricing has yet to be released and it’s not yet known when the S60 will be introduced to our market.
