The Volvo C40 Recharge is one of the latest creations from Volvo as part of their electric vehicle rollout. Tech filled and modern is part of the C40's spec sheet but how do you connect your Android phone to the vehicle's infotainment system?
The Volvo C40 Recharge forms part of the electric vehicle offensive that Volvo is rolling out for the coming years as part of its commitment to a zero-emission future. My colleague Sean Nurse had the C40 Recharge on test, and you can watch his thoughts here.
The C40 Recharge cabin is contemporary as part of the green initiative. Letting natural light into the cabin is a lovely green feature. It’s the first Volvo model to be completely leather-free. Technology is also paid attention to here as the C40 Recharge comes with a highly regarded infotainment system that was jointly developed with Google. As such, you can expect built-in Google Apps and services, including Google Maps, Google Assistant and the Google Play Store. With this kit, however, how do you connect your Android phone?
Great! But how do I connect my Android phone to my C40 Recharge?
Thanks to the joint development of the infotainment system, the Infotainment is Android-based; thus, connecting your Android is a breeze. There are a few ways to do it, though.
If you’re doing this for the first time, it’s best to connect your Android phone via USB. The C40 Recharge only uses USB-C, so make sure you either have your phone’s original USB cable or a third-party cable that’s capable of data transfer. When the car is on, ideally, connect the USB cable to the port that has a white frame around it. Once connected, follow the prompts on the infotainment screen and your phone. You’ll then be able to use Android Auto and the other Google Apps.
Once your Android phone has been initialised, you don’t necessarily have to use your USB cable unless you want to charge your phone that way. Android Auto can now work wirelessly. You’ll now be able to handle phone calls, music, navigation and other Android Auto apps.
Optionally, you can use Automatic Start in the C40 Recharge. In the settings menu, under Communication, head to the Android Auto menu and select if you want Automatic Start on or off. This will simply automatically start Android Auto when the USB cable is connected.
If you’re sold on this feature and want a C40 Recharge, be sure to search AutoTrader for the latest used and new offerings and even sell your car too.
