Swedish carmaker Volvo has revealed the all-new EX30 electric SUV. The Volvo EX30 is based on Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture platform for EVs that also underpins the Smart #1 SUV.
The all-new Volvo EX30 is the smallest electric SUV offering from the Swedish marque. However, don’t think that the EX30 is tiny as the electric SUV measures 4,233mm long and has a 2,650mm long wheelbase.
And one look at its design and the EX30 reminds you of Volvo’s flagship electric SUV, the EX90. At the front, the Volvo EX30 sports a diagonal line running across the badge while the Thor’s Hammer headlights are made up of multiple square pixels similar to the ones on the EX90.
At the sides, there is a coupe-like sloping roof, black side skirts and some snazzy alloy wheels (18 or 19 inches). At the rear, you find a roof-mounted spoiler element along with split LED taillights and the Volvo name spelt out across the tailgate.
Inside, you’ll find a vertically aligned 12-inch central touchscreen that gives you all your data from speed and range. The central screen is also the infotainment display which has software based on Google and gets Maps and Spotify as standard along with support for Apple CarPlay.
The system is connected to a Harman Kardon audio system and also controls the dual-zone climate control system that uses a heat pump. The EX30 also gets heated seats and a heated steering wheel.
The Volvo EX90 is offered with three powertrain setups – Single Motor, Single Motor Extended Range and Twin Motor Performance. The base Single Motor sports a 51kWh LFP battery pack with a range of 344km that can charge at a max speed of 150kWh taking the cells from 10 to 80 per cent in 26 minutes.
The Single Motor version of the EX30 sports a single-motor setup that produces 268bhp and 343Nm of peak torque. This version of the EX30 sprints from 0-100km/h in 5.7 seconds and a top speed of 180km/h.
The Extended Range model uses a 69kWh NMC battery pack that delivers a range of 480 kilometres on a single charge. The battery charges at a maximum speed of 175kWh which charge the cells from 10 to 80 per cent in 26 minutes. The Extended Range Single Motor variant sprints from 0-100km/h in just 5.3 seconds and has a top speed of 180km/h.
The dual-motor version uses the same battery pack as the extended-range model but the range drops to 460km. However, the Twin Motor Performance version of the EX30 adds an extra motor to the front axle making it an all-wheel-drive SUV.
The EX30 Twin Motor Performance produces 422bhp and 543Nm of peak torque. This allows the EX30’s top-spec variant to sprint from 0-100km/h in just 3.6 seconds. The EX30 is Volvo’s fastest-accelerating car to date.
Thoughts About The Volvo EX30
The Volvo EX30 is the fourth all-electric model from Volvo and looks to be perhaps the most exciting EV from the Scandinavian firm, especially that Twin Motor Performance model.
