The first new Volvo C40 electric crossovers will start to arrive towards the end of the first quarter, as the Swedish carmaker prepares to launch its second all-electric vehicle by the start of the fourth quarter.
A spokesperson for Volvo Australia told The Driven that cars will arrive in September, and that drivers will start seeing the first customers’ C40s on the road in October.
Initial pricing and specifications of the C40 were first revealed by Volvo’s Australian arm in April. At the time, the carmaker said the low profile electric crossover will be available in both a single motor and dual motor variant.
This includes an all-wheel-drive variant with 300kW/660Nm power train priced from $82,490 before on-road costs and will deliver acceleration from 0 to 100km/h in a 4.7 seconds.
A 150kW DC fast charger will charge its 78kWh lithium-ion battery from 10% to 80% capacity in 40 minutes, giving it an estimated 420km of WLTP-certified range.

Starting from $74,990 before on-roads, the single-motor front-wheel drive model outperforms the dual-motor model’s 420 WLTP driving miles per charge while using a smaller battery (69 kWh).
The single motor variant’s smaller battery, according to Volvo, also allows for quicker charging periods. It can charge from 10% to 80% in as little as 32 minutes, which is eight minutes faster than the bigger 78kWh lithium-ion battery.
