Mahindra has been making a name for itself in the SUV world, and the newly introduced Scorpio S11 should prove even more popular. Here we list our Top 5 changes between the new and the out-going model.
The Mahindra Scorpio S10 7-seater SUV was launched in mid-2016 and has found a solid customer base in the three and a half years it has been on sale here.
Now, in mid-February 2020, Mahindra has launched some important updates to the Scorpio, known as the S11 version. These include significant power and transmission upgrades, as well as changes to the interior.
Our Top 5 differences between the new and the old Mahindra Scorpio
- Engine upgrade. The Scorpio S10 model was launched in 2016 with a rather modestly-powered version of Mahindra’s mHawk turbocharged diesel engine. This produced 88 kW and 280 Nm of torque between 1 800 rpm and 2 800 rpm. The new mHawk turbo diesel in the S11 is a common-rail unit that raises power significantly to 103 kW, and torque to 320 Nm. The torque peak is also accessed earlier in the rev-range, between 1 500 rpm and 2 800 rpm.
- Six-speed gearbox. The Scorpio S10 was launched with a 5-speed gearbox. This has now been upgraded in the S11 to a six-speed gearbox, for a better spread of ratios enabling quicker acceleration and relaxed cruising.
- Larger infotainment screen. The new Scorpio S11 has a larger infotainment screen measuring 7 inches in length. The new screen has built-in Sat Nav and the integrated rear view camera has been updated with new sensors for an enhanced rear view when reversing.
- New steering wheel. The new SII Scorpio features a new leather-covered steering wheel with remote controls for cruise control, infotainment operation and voice command.
- Pricing. When the Mahnidra Scorpio 7 seater was introduced in August 2016, pricing was R283 995 for the 4X2 model and R299 995 for the 4X4. Mahindra has been able to contain this pricing very well over the last three and a half years.
When the outgoing S10 was on sale here in January 2020 the pricing was R305 999 for the 4X2 and R325 999 for the 4X4..
The latest Mahindra Scorpio S11 pricing, with the significant upgrades, sees the 4X2 model sell for R329 999 and the 4X4 model selling for R349 999.
