Over the next few months, Mahindra will introduce the single-cab Pik Up Karoo Dawn, XUV300 XPREZ, and Scorpio-N Adventure Edition to the domestic market.
“Having laid a solid foundation in South Africa over the past 19 years, we now shift gears and focus on expanding our range of Authentic SUVs and Authentic bakkies,” said Rajesh Gupta, CEO of Mahindra South Africa.
“This will not only help us to maintain the momentum that has made us the fastest-growing brand in 2022, but will also give us a varied product offering that will appeal to virtually all consumer groups.”
Single-cab Pik Up Karoo Dawn
The Karoo range has thus far only been offered as a double cab in Dawn, Dew, Dusk, and Storm trims, with the single cab to be the first special-edition model in this body style.
These bakkies are equipped with rugged accessories designed to enhance their off-roading capabilities, including:
- Side steps
- Rear sports bar
- All-terrain tyres
- Rear overfenders
- Off-road suspension
- Rubberised load bin
- Rugged 16-inch alloy wheels
- Roller shutter/tonneau cover
- High-strength steel “Bundu Gear” front and rear bumpers
The Dawn comes in Sand Dune paint with orange decals and is the only one out of the special-edition vehicles to be equipped with a roof rack, however, it remains to be seen whether the single cab with its smaller roof will allow for the installation of this unique add-on.
The newcomer will then drive all four wheels through a 2.2-litre, turbocharged diesel powerplant generating 103kW and 320Nm.

XUV300 XPREZ
The XUV300 XPREZ is a custom-built panel van version of the standard crossover and is exclusively available in the South African market.
This will be the second time the moniker is used, with the KUV100 previously being offered as an XPREZ variant before its discontinuation earlier in 2023.
The new vehicle is aimed at offering “safe, cost-effective, and reliable transport for businesses looking for a commercial vehicle in the sub-one-tonne market,” said Gupta.
Mahindra has yet to confirm which of the XUV300’s powertrains will be employed in the XPREZ as the range currently has two engines to choose from comprising a 1.2-litre, turbo-petrol with 81kW and 200Nm and a combined fuel consumption of 6.3l/100km, or a 1.5-litre, turbo-diesel producing 86kW and 300Nm at 5.0l/100km.
Considering the diesel motor is only available in the higher-end XUV300 W6 and W8 specifications, it’s likely that the XPREZ will employ the petrol unit.

Mahindra Scorpio-N Adventure Edition
Following the success of the original Scorpio Adventure Edition in South Africa, the manufacturer has “listened to the calls of Mahindra fans and will soon introduce a special Mahindra Scorpio-N Adventure Edition,” said Gupta.
The SUV comes complete with custom-built bumpers that increase its approach and departure angles, off-road focused tyres and suspension, and a number of exclusive interior additions – though these remain to be confirmed.
The bumpers are equipped with a tow bar and pre-fitted with recovery hooks and high-lift jacking points, with the front end also featuring integrated fog lamps.
The special-edition SUV is fitted with the same 2.2-litre, turbo-diesel mill and six-speed automatic gearbox as the rest of the range, providing 129kW and 400Nm, as well as the 4Xplor four-wheel-drive system with Normal, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud/Rut, and Sand drive modes.
Like the first Adventure Edition, the Scorpio-N version is anticipated to slot in at the top of the line-up with its starting price likely to be higher than the current range-topper that retails for R604,999.
TopAuto had the opportunity to grab a few photos of a pre-production unit, as shown below, but keep in mind any panel gaps and imperfections shown are not indicative of how the production-ready SUV will be presented.
