The new model, expected to be fully revealed in May is hinted to employ an ICE running on hydrogen.
The French brand is next up in giving the automotive world hope that combustion engines are not yet at the end of their functional use. The teased Renault model is the latest to hint at employing an internal combustion engine running on environmentally friendly hydrogen.
The new model, expected to be fully revealed in May is hinted to employ an ICE running on hydrogen.
An unprecedented concept car are the words that the popular European marque has used to describe their latest model which is depicted in a contrast filled yet vague front-on photo. While it may look conventional on the outside, the teased Renault model is said to be equipped with a “hydrogen engine”, the strategic use of these words give us hope that ICE’s may live on in the future giving electric vehicles (which still have their pitfalls) a run for their money. Mandated laws may be amended to allow for these to be sold in markets that are in the process of phasing out ICE’s.
The only other two commercial models that are currently being sold are the Toyota Mirai and the Hyundai Nexo, both of which are fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV) meaning they are not purely powered by hydrogen. While pure hydrogen technology is still novel in comparison to the buzz electric powertrains have initiated, the brands that manage to pioneer the unprecedented powertrain on a commercial scale will enjoy success.
That is possibly why details on the unconventional model are scarce as Renault are keeping tight lipped on any noteworthy features including the powertrain until the full reveal which is scheduled sometime in May. The French brand have further stated that the interior will be equipped with “onboard technological innovations” for improved safety of the occupants but these strung together words which leave indistinct thoughts in our minds are all that we will get for now.
The vague shot of the model with a split headlight configuration alludes to a Kiger-esque aesthetic which seems to behold SUV proportions once again but the illuminated logo is indicative of the Megane E-Tech Electric. A conventional powertrain isn’t the only thing that has been done away with as side cameras seem to have replaced side mounted rear view mirrors.
Official dates on the launch of this teased Renault model are yet to be given but we can expect to know more about it in May when the French brand officially takes the covers off.
