Renault South Africa has told TopAuto that its Duster Oroch bakkie is confirmed for the local market.
The model coming to the country was recently reported on by News24.
The Oroch is based on the popular Duster crossover, and will be available in its single cab guise when it reaches South Africa.
“The anticipated all-new model Oroch single cab bakkie is in the planning for late 2022,” said a spokesperson for Renault.
What to expect
As the Renault Duster Oroch is not due this year, there is little information on what it will offer when it does arrive.
However, the Oroch is already available in other African countries – giving us an idea of what to expect.
Currently, in Nigeria, the Oroch is available with a 1.6-litre or 2.0-litre petrol engine.
Output is rated at 82kW and 148Nm, and 107kW and 198Nm, respectively – with power sent to the front or all four wheels, depending on the trim.
The bakkie measures in at 4,700mm long, 1,821mm wide, and 1,694mm tall – and weighs in at a maximum kerb weight of 1,346kg.
In terms of features, the current range-topping model gets a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment display, while the other models receive a Bluetooth-capable radio system.
The seats are covered in “attractive upholstery” and features such as air-conditioning, automatic door locking, heated windows, drive mode settings, and a multifunction steering wheel form part of the standard equipment.
Options including cruise control, parking sensors, partial-leather upholsteries, and an on-board computer are available in the range-topping trim.
Safety features are then standardised across the range and consist of:
- Alarm
- Front seatbelts
- Front fog lights
- ABS with EBD and EBA
- Driver and passenger airbags
Oroch in South Africa
The South African market will only be receiving the single cab Oroch as it stands, which targets the entry-level light commercial vehicle market.
Its main competition will come from the Nissan NP200, which has a sub-R200,000 starting price and an 800kg maximum payload capacity.
