The new Renault Kiger became the ninth best-selling car in South Africa in September, amassing a total of 1,126 sales.
This is impressive as it beat competitors like the Hyundai Venue and Haval Jolion, rising to the top of the sales ranks in the country’s most competitive segment.
All this while being on the market for less than one full month.

Renault told TopAuto that the Kiger 1.0 Zen non-turbocharged model in both its manual and automatic guise is the most popular option among buyers, with 39% of users opting for this trim in September.
The Zen is closely followed by the Kiger 1.0 Turbo Intens, also in manual and automatic, with 37% of buyers selecting this model.
The Kiger 1.0 Turbo Zen places third with 14%, with the entry-level Kiger 1.0 Life accounting for the remaining 10%.
According to these figures, the Kiger’s sales in September were as follows:
- Kiger Life – 112 units
- Kiger Turbo Zen – 158 units
- Kiger Turbo Intens – 417 units
- Kiger Zen – 439 units
“We anticipated a strong launch based on the positioning of the Kiger in the AB-Entry and B-SUV segment. With a strong suggested retail price,” Renault South Africa told TopAuto.
Kiger Zen specs
On the outside, the “mid-range” Renault Kiger Zen offers integrated roof rails, a rear window wiper, and 16-inch “Flex” wheels.
The top-of-the-line Intens then has LED headlights and a different wheel design to set it apart from the Zen.
Inside, the mid-range offering sports “Linear Interlock” fabric seats, a multi-information driver’s display, all-round electric windows, a manual air conditioner, keyless entry and start, rear parking sensors, and a reverse camera.
In addition, the Zen is the first trim in the line-up that is fitted with an 8-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, playing through a four-speaker layout.
Powering the non-turbocharged Kiger Zen is a 1.0-litre, petrol engine generating 52kW and 96Nm, connected to either a five-speed manual or five-speed automatic gearbox.
This set-up assures a combined fuel consumption of 5.3l/100km, allowing a claimed range of 755km on a single tank.

The Life and entry-level Zen model also come with a 2-year/30,000km service plan, while the remaining models get a 3-year/45,000km service plan.
