Renault India has launched the 2022 Kwid in the Indian market. It now starts at Rs. 4.49 lakhs ex-showroom. They have also introduced a new RXL(O) variant to both engine options. There are also new paint schemes for the accents for the Climber variant of the Kwid. There are no changes to the engines, gearboxes or features of the Kwid.
First launched in 2015, the Kwid has been very successful in the Indian market. The biggest reason behind this is the design. Kwid looks like a mini SUV and has a good amount of ground clearance too. Renault has sold more than 4 lakh Kwids since it was first launched.
The Climber version of the Kwid now comes with white accents on the interior as well as exterior. There are also new colours for the Climber variant. There is Metal Mustard & Ice Cool White that comes with a black roof. So, they are dual-tone colours. Then there are the newly designed flex wheels which look like alloy wheels but are stylized wheel covers.
Engine and gearbox
There are no changes to the gearbox or the transmission of the Kwid. It is still offered in two petrol engine options and there is no diesel engine on offer. Both petrol engines are three-cylinder, naturally aspirated units.
The 0.8-litre engine produces 54 PS of max power and 72 Nm of peak torque. The 1.0-litre engine is more powerful as it produces 68 PS of max power and 91 Nm of peak torque. Both engines are offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. You can get a 5-speed AMT only with the 1.0-litre engine. Both the engines have a claimed fuel efficiency of around 22 kmpl.
Safety equipment
Renault offers dual airbags, rear parking sensors, engine immobilizer, Antilock-braking system with Electronic Brake Distribution, Over Speed Alert, seat belt reminders, high mounted stop lamp and integrated headrests as standard. On the higher variants, you also get pre-tensioner seatbelts and a rear parking camera.
Design
Kwid comes with a decent equipment list. As standard, we get LED guidelines in the tail lamps, roof spoiler, side indicator on wheel arches, black hub caps, wheel arch cladding, LED Daytime Running Lamps and Grey Melange colour scheme for the interior. As you climb up the variant levels, you get door decals, wheel covers in sparkling white, grille with chrome inserts, painted outside rearview mirrors, sporty accents, front and rear skid plates, multi-spoke wheels and much more.
Features
The base variant comes with an air conditioner with a heater, pollen filter, digital tachometer and an onboard computer. The higher variants get electric power steering, power windows, internally adjustable ORVMs, keyless entry, infotainment system with Bluetooth, rear parcel tray, USB charger, day-night IRVM, LED instrument cluster, leather-wrapped steering wheel and much more. There is also a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Video Playback and voice recognization.
Rivals
Renault Kwid competes against Maruti Suzuki Alto 800, Maruti Suzuki S-Presso, Tata Punch, Tata Tiago, Hyundai Santro and Datsun redi-GO.
