Renault Collaborates With Renowned French Designer for its Anniversary
Currently generating headlines is a new partnership between Renault and French designer Pierre Gonalons. Renault collaborated with a well-known designer who represents French arts and crafts and one of Architectural Digest’s 100 most influential artists to commemorate the 50th anniversary of this famous vehicle.
The Renault 5 Diamant show car was the result of discussions between Pierre Gonalons and the Renault Design Colours & Trims team. A futuristic electric vehicle combines elements of the automotive and interior design industries.
Various intricate and creative aspects are visible in the vehicle, where decorative arts, especially exquisite jewelry, inspired Pierre Gonalons.
The immediately recognizable appearance and undeniable form of the original ‘Supercar,’ which left Renault’s assembly lines for the first time in 1972, have been preserved in the Renault 5 Diamant. But apart from the recognizable silhouette, a lot has changed. The vehicle’s first contemporary feature is a fully electric powertrain beneath the hood. The design’s eye-catching elements combine to create a brand-new, opulent aesthetic that compels you to look closer.
Here’s What to Know About Gonalons-Designed Renault 5 Diamant
The exterior color comprises three layers of paint: a pink base with golden pigments on top, finished with frosted varnish, providing a range of hues from golden dashes in the light to bluer tones at night. At the same time, the vehicle’s interior is slim. Pierre Gonalons streamlined the car by preserving just a few unique components, drawing on the knowledge of Renault Design and the artisans working on this project.
The steering wheel, which is marble on carbon and is the most distinctive feature of the Renault 5 Diamant, is also the most user-friendly.
Renault 5 Diamant is an all-electric car with a fingerprint scanner and a three-position sequential shift lever (forward, neutral, reverse).
The three most important pieces of information are provided by Diamant’s circular digital dials, which honor the craft of clockmaking. They are speed, battery charge, and time. The owner’s smartphone can quickly provide navigation and entertainment and fits in a unique cradle in the dashboard’s center.
Several usual Pierre Gonalons collaborators contributed to Renault 5 Diamant. The steering wheel and storage box are made of Grand Antique d’Aubert marble molded into tubes to make them lighter and more pliable.
Renault Faced Legal Concerns in France Last Month
Before Renault collaborated with a famous French designer, customers in France sued Renault in June after they experienced issues with some of their engines. With Renault in the said issue is Nissan, who faced French customer concerns similarly.
According to Christophe Leguevaques, an attorney representing Renault and Nissan in the case, the combined legal action reflected grievances from over 1,100 persons. The 1.2-liter, four-cylinder gasoline engine manufactured by the defendants was installed in countless Renault, Nissan, Dacia, and Mercedes-Benz automobiles between 2012 and 2018.
Owners have reported excessive oil consumption connected to a problem with the piston rings.
The engine, which was built in Spain and Britain, consumed too much oil, according to a prior statement from Renault, but no safety hazards were associated with this. They stated that it will individually compensate for the problem.
