Nissan Magnite Safety Rating by Global NCAP
The Magnite first scored a very respectable 4-star rating from the ASEAN NCAP and the same rating was later provided even by the Global NCAP. The India-spec Nissan Magnite was tested in its base trim that comes with just two front airbags. It was awarded 11.85 points out of 17 in adult protection. The car offered good protection to the head and neck of the front passenger but the driver’s chest protection was rated as weak. The protection to the driver’s knees was rated ‘marginal’ as they were prone to be hit by dangerous structures located behind the dashboard. However, the front footwell was rated stable.
On the other hand, the protection for rear occupants was rated weak and the vehicle could score just 24.88 out of 49 points. The model that was put to test didn’t come with ISOFIX child seat anchorages and offered poor chest protection to the three-year-old’s dummy. Also, the front-facing child seat of the 3-year-old’s dummy couldn’t avoid excessive forward movement of the head. The rear middle seat lacked a three-point safety belt.
The higher versions of the Nissan Magnite offer ISOFIX child seat restraints, traction control, ESP and hill start assist. All of these should help the car fare better in NCAP test. In fact, the top-end variant even comes with a 360-degree surround-view monitor and a tyre pressure monitoring system. As we said, the Magnite first scored a similar 4-star rating in the ASEAN NCAP in early 2021. The model tested was the made-in-India vehicle that is exported to Indonesia. This car carries ISOFIX child seat mounts and ESP as standard. It even offered higher protection to the knees of the front occupants.
