Nissan Magnite is one of the best-selling and best-looking compact SUVs currently in the market and the sub-4m SUV now makes it onto the list of safest cars available in India with a 4-Star safety rating for adult occupant protection from Global-NCAP.
In the crash test conducted by Global-NCAP, the Nissan Magnite scored 11.85 points out of 17 points. However, the sub-4m SUV could manage only a 2-Star rating for the child occupant protection test by scoring 24.88 points out of 49 points.
According to sources, the child occupant protection rating took a dip as the base variant of the Nissan Magnite did not have ISOFIX anchor points needed to fix the child seat. This means the child seat was secured with the three-point seatbelt, resulting in an unwanted forward movement of the child seat.
Speaking about Nissan Magnite, the sub-4m SUV helped Nissan claw back the lost traction in the Indian market by securing more than 72,000 bookings for the compact SUV. Moreover, Nissan recently announced that the company has now delivered more than 30,000 units of Nissan Magnite SUVs in India.
One of the reasons for Nissan Magnite’s exceptional performance in the Global-NCAP crash testing could be credited to its CMF-A+ platform. This is a global platform that also happens to underpin the Renault Triber and the platform itself is a derivative of Nissan’s CMF-A platform that underpins the Renault Kwid.
The Nissan Magnite is powered by two petrol engine options. The base petrol engine is a frugal 1.0-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine with 72bhp and 96Nm of torque.
While these power and torque figures may seem low for an SUV in India, the engine provides more than sufficient power as the SUV weighs relatively low at just 939kgs.
While the other engine is also a 1.0-litre unit, it is a turbocharged unit and hence produces a bit more power and torque at 98.6bhp and 160Nm, respectively. However, the torque output is limited to just 152Nm in the variants equipped with a CVT gearbox.
In India, Nissan Magnite is available in 4 different trim levels – XE, XL, XV, and XV Premium and prices for Nissan’s ‘game-changing’ SUV starts from Rs 5.76 lakhs (ex-showroom) in India.
