The Nio ET5 station wagon (or Nio ET5 Kombi) is a car that everyone is talking about. Nio has developed it especially for the European market. Today, this version of the ET5 has got an approval of the Chinese regulator. So it is ready to hit the production in China. Let’s get to know the ET5 station wagon better.
First of all, we will mention that the ET5 station wagon will be assembled by the JAC-NIO factory in Hefei. This is why we can clearly see the ‘江淮汽车’ (JAC Auto) badge on the back of the Nio ET5. Currently, this plant also manufactures such vehicles as ES6, ES7 (EL7), ES8 (EL8), EC6, and ET7. As for the ET5 sedan, Nio produces it at the factory in NeoPark. We should also mention that the Nio ET5’s name remained unchanged.
More details about the Nio ET5
We will crack on with the exterior design of the Nio ET5. It stands in line with the brand’s latest design language. As for its front end, it is quite similar to the ET5 sedan. We can highlight the same headlights, running lights, a slopped bonnet line, and a LiDAR sensor with cameras on the roof. The ET5 station wagon has also got real side view mirrors, just like the sedan does.
All the noticeable changes happened after the B-pillar of the ET5. So now it officially has a station wagon body type. As we can see from the back, this EV has still got the brand’s well-known LED taillight strip. We can also see here that the ET5 got a tiny rear wiper that doesn’t look too practical. The ET5 also got a sporty roof spoiler. As for the trunk, its door seems to be too small. So even with a spacious trunk, you won’t be able to fit some large stuff there. By the way, the actual car is finished in the ‘Star Gray’ color.
Speaking about dimensions of the ET5 station wagon, they are 4790/1960/1499 mm with a wheelbase of 2888 mm. So it is literally the same size as the ET5 sedan. For clarity, the ET5 station wagon is 77 mm longer, 133 mm wider, and 57 mm higher than the BMW 3 Series Touring. Its curb weight lies in the range of 2,195-2,245 kg. As for the gross weight, it is 2,730 kilos. So the ET5 station wagon is a pretty heavy vehicle. I can also tow up to 1,400 kg.
Nio ET5 powertrain and features
The Nio ET5 station wagon will be available with a standard battery options. Worth mentioning that this EV, just like all the other Nio vehicles, will support the battery swap technology. We will remind you of some basic information about them. There will be three variants:
Standard range: hybrid ternary-LFP (NMC-LFP) battery for 75 kWh;
Long range: ternary battery for 100 kWh;
Ultra long range: semi-solid state battery for 150 kWh (to hit mass production in H1 2023).
As for the power output, the ET5 station wagon has two electric motors on board. The one on the front axle provides 150 kW (204 hp) of power, while the electric motor on the rear axle has a power output of 210 kW (286 hp). So the combined power of the ET5 station wagon reaches 360 kW or 490 hp. Its powertrain is the same with the ET5 sedan.
As we can see from the images, the ET5 will be able to have optional red brake calipers and five styles of rims. We can also see it will also be available with an optional Moon Package.
The Nio ET5 station wagon is hundred percent ready for the mass production. It will first enter the European markets. And then will also become available for purchase in China.

As we have reported multiple times, Chinese brands, including Nio, have tough times in the European market. There are several reasons for this bias, for example, the Chinese policy, global situation, inflation, conservative customers, etc. But it seems that the ET5 can change this trend and attract some attention from potential customers.
