Renault’s updated Clio supermini spotted in Spain ahead of world debut in coming weeks
Footage of an undisguised new 2023 Renault Clio has been leaked on social media after the updated fifth-generation hatch was caught filming in Valencia, Spain.
The short clip, captured by Twitter user @juanjogrosa, shows how Renault’s designers plan to inject new life into the current BF-series Renault Clio that went on sale back in 2019.
Key changes include new slimline headlights combined with arrowhead-shaped daytime running lamps.

A new thin single-bar grille links the new headlights, while the grille beneath looks like it’s been redesigned along with the lower half of the front bumper.
The footage doesn’t show what Renault has done at the rear of the Clio, but it’s thought a pair of revised tail-lights and tweaked rear bumper have been introduced.
Beneath the skin, there’s no word on what engineers have been able to accomplish with the four-year-old hatch, but there’s rumours the Clio might be offered with the plug-in hybrid powertrain found the Renault Captur E-Tech Hybrid.
If so, expect the French Toyota Yaris rival to combine a 1.6-litre four-cylinder with two electric motors and a 9.8kWh battery pack.

In pure-electric mode only, a Clio PHEV should be capable of a top speed of 135km/h and cover up to 50km of driving range before petrol power kicks in.
Other new powertrains slipped under the Clio’s bonnet might include the French car-maker’s latest ‘micro-hybrid’ powertrain that combines a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol with a small 12-volt battery and starter generator.
All will be revealed in the coming weeks as Renault has announced the facelifted Renault Clio will make its debut in the second quarter of this year.
