Motorists who want to pick up the updated Mazda 2 in South Africa will need to spend at least R1,500 on insurance, according to research done by TopAuto.
The Japanese automaker recently revamped its long-running hatchback, simplifying the line-up to four models with prices starting at R307,100 for the base Active, up to R398,700 for the range-topping Individual.
All four units share the same 1.5-litre petrol plant, which generates a total of 85kW and 148Nm, and buyers have a choice of either a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox, leading to a fuel consumption of 5.7l or 6.0l/100km, respectively.
Equipment included across the range comprises Bluetooth, four speakers, keyless entry and start, manual air conditioning, cloth seats, a multifunction steering wheel, two airbags, and 15-inch steel wheels.
Those who choose to upscale to the pricier models can then expect items like 16-inch alloys, a two-tone roof, auto-folding side mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, cruise control, a leather steering wheel, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, leather upholstery, a reverse camera, rear parking sensors, a wireless charger, automatic headlights, a heads-up display, paddle shifters, a 7-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and four more speakers.
