Mazda is discontinuing the Mazda 3 Sedan in South Africa, but there are still units left to buy.
The company said it will run out the remaining stock of the Mazda 3 Sedan in the country, while the Mazda 3 Hatchback will remain on offer in the future.
This means parts and services will be readily available for the sedan.
Buyers who had their eye on the Mazda 3 Sedan will therefore need to act quickly, as there is no set date on when the last unit will roll off the showroom floor.
Below, we detail the features and performance of the Mazda 3 Sedan models that are still available locally.
Active
In its most affordable Active specification, the Mazda 3 Sedan is equipped with automatic LED lights, rain-sensing wipers, keyless entry and start, a heads-up-display, a manual air conditioner, a multifunction steering wheel, and 16-inch alloy wheels.
It also gets a 7-inch digital instrument cluster alongside an 8.8-inch infotainment display as standard, and supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The Mazda 3 comes with plenty of safety systems, too, including auto brake hold, hill launch assist, ABS with emergency brake assist, and seven airbags.
This is in addition to a 5-star Australasian NCAP safety score.
Powering the Active, Dynamic, and Individual specifications is a 1.5-litre, petrol engine generating 88kW and 153Nm.
In the Active model, it connects to a six-speed manual transmission that sends power to the front wheels – with a combined fuel consumption of 5.9l/100km.
Dynamic
Stepping up to the Dynamic model keeps the aforementioned features and engine, and adds a leather steering wheel and gear lever to create a more premium atmosphere.
It also receives a rear seat armrest with cupholders, cruise control, and rear parking sensors.
While the Dynamic is fitted with the same motor as the Active, it can be paired with a six-speed automatic gearbox in this trim.
The automatic transmission does not change engine output or fuel consumption, however.
Individual
The Mazda 3 Sedan Individual vastly improves the equipment list, with a notable addition being a full leather upholstery.
The Individual is also treated to keyless entry and start, dual-zone climate control, an electric driver’s chair, auto-folding mirrors, and a 12-speaker Bose sound system – while exterior updates comprise a new set of 18-inch alloy wheels.
The Mazda 3 Sedan Individual has the same engine and transmission options as the Dynamic.
Astina
The range-topping Astina is the only derivative powered by a 2.0-litre motor, and it offers all the bells and whistles that Mazda had at its disposal.
In addition to the Individual’s features, the Astina receives a sunroof, adaptive headlights, integrated navigation, rear-seat air con vents, and paddle shifters.
It gains cutting-edge safety systems, too, including a blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert.
The larger motor then generates 121kW and 213Nm, and pairs to a six-speed automatic transmission only.
Combined fuel consumption for this model is rated at 6.2l/100km.
