The popularity of the all-new Mahindra XUV700 is an open secret. Mahindra also attracted a lot of customers looking for safe cars after the five-star rating from Global N-CAP. A brand-new Mahindra XUV700 got involved in an accident with a truck. Here is the result.
The accident is reported by Prateek Singh and it happened in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. According to the information available, the Mahindra XUV700 was on a flyover when a truck suddenly overtook the vehicle. The truck driven then suddenly applied the brakes in the middle of the road.
The driver of the XUV700 could not react in time and the XUV700 collided with the rear-end of the truck. There was no crash-guard behind the truck, which caused the XUV700 to slide under. There are multiple points of impact and the A-pillar for the XUV700 crashed directly against the loading bay.
The pictures show the aftermath. The accident ripped apart the bonnet of the vehicle and damaged the front end of the vehicle heavily. The XUV700 is quite unrecognisable from the front after the accident.
However, the two passengers travelling in the vehicle are safe. They did sustain some injuries and were admitted to the hospital but both of them have been discharged now.
The pictures also show the open front airbags of the car. The A-Pillar absorbed the impact very well. It seems like the vehicle did not have an ADAS feature else the automatic emergency braking would have saved the car from this collision.
Most Indian trucks do not have underrun bars
Since it was a tall vehicle, the damages were limited due to the height of the vehicle. A sedan or a hatchback in a similar accident could have faced much worse consequences. Since trucks are very tall and have a wide exposed area, it is mandatory for them to install underrun bars in numerous countries around the world to save cars from such accidents.
These bars are mandatory in many countries but there is no such rule in India. Underrun bars ensure that the bumper of the car makes first contact with the truck in an accident. This triggers the airbags and also allows the car to absorb the impact by bringing the crumple zones into play.
XUV700 is a five-star rated car
Global NCAP had awarded the five-star rating after the Mahindra XUV700 scored 16.03 out of a total of 17 points. The car’s structure is also rated as stable. The crash test also found out that the potential injuries to the front passengers also remain marginal. The car has also received the highest points ever for a child safety rating. It scored 41.66 out of a maximum of 49, the highest for any made-in-India car.
