Mahindra has issued a recall for the recently launched XUV700 SUV. This is the first time the SUV has been recalled. However, not all variants of the Mahindra XUV700 have been recalled by the car manufacturer.
As per the reports, the diesel variant of the Mahindra XUV700 SUV equipped with the all-wheel-drive drivetrain has been recalled. Specifically, the recalled variants are AX 7 Diesel AT AWD 7 STR and AX 7 Diesel AT AWD Luxury Pack 7 STR.
Speaking about the recall, the recall has been classified as critical service action by Mahindra. Moreover, the issue seems to be pertaining to the propeller shaft connecting the engine to the rear axle. However, the exact number of affected vehicles is yet to be known.
If the XUV700 variant fits the above category, it should be taken to the nearest service centre where the service team will carry out all the necessary diagnostics on the bolts holding the drive shaft.
Though there have been no reported issues as of now, we suspect Mahindra has acted before something major goes wrong, and this shows the commitment from the automaker toward its customers.
Last month it was reported that Mahindra had delivered 30,000 units of Mahindra XUV700 SUVs in India – A remarkable feat considering the ongoing chip shortage and pandemic-related difficulties. However, the automaker is yet to deliver more than 78,000 Mahindra XUV700 SUVs and the waiting period for some variants extends up to 2 years.
It is also worth mentioning that the diesel variants of the Mahindra XUV700 demand a higher waiting period. However, the base ‘MX’ variant of the SUV has a much lesser waiting period compared to higher ‘AX’ variants of the SUV.
At present, Mahindra is able to produce around 6,000 XUV700 SUVs in India, but the average booking for the SUV stands much more than that number and we expect waiting periods for the XUV700 to increase in the coming months unless Mahindra further increases its production.
Mahindra XUV700 also comes with a very long feature list yet features an aggressive price tag. Moreover, the company has not cut corners on safety features either and the SUV sports a perfect 5-Star safety rating for adult occupant protection at Global-NCAP. The SUV is also one of few models in India to feature ADAS.
The Mahindra XUV700 comes with 3 engine options – One petrol engine and two diesel engines. The petrol engine is a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 197bhp of peak power and 380Nm of peak torque.
On the other hand, both the diesel engines are 2.2-litre turbocharged units. However, the more powerful version model produces 182bhp of peak power and 450Nm of torque, whereas the diesel engine used in the ‘MX’ variant pushes out 153bhp of peak power and 360Nm of peak torque.
Gearbox options include a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic gearbox that can be specified with both petrol and diesel powertrains.

As there have been no reported issues with the propeller shaft on the XUV700 SUV, we suspect Mahindra has acted before something major incident takes place, and this shows the commitment from the automaker towards its customers.
