The Global NCAP has just awarded the Mahindra XUV700 the ‘Safer Choice’ Award. After being crash-tested in November last year, it had emerged on top with excellent safety ratings. The SUV had received a 5-star rating for adult protection and a 4-star rating for children.
With 57.69/66 points total, it came out victorious with the highest score under the ‘Safer Cars For India’ campaign. Mahindra voluntarily submitted the XUV700 for further testing, after which it was presented with the award. It is the second Mahindra car after the XUV300 to get this award. The XUV300 was awarded the same in February 2020.
Talking about the prestigious award, Anand Mahindra tweeted,
“Of all the virtuous aspects of the @XUV700 this is the one we’re most satisfied about…”

Safe Haven
Mahindra is very serious when it comes to safety, and the XUV700 is not different. The SUV comes with a fantastic list of safety features like seven airbags, a 360-degree surround-view system, an Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Blind View Monitoring, an electronic parking brake, tyre pressure monitoring system, and Autonomous Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS. These include Front Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Warning, and Driver Drowsiness Detection.
The ‘Safer Cars For India’ campaign was introduced by the Global NCAP way back in 2014 in an effort to increase the safety standards in the country. Over the course of 8 years, they have carried out multiple assessments and crash tests and announced the ‘Safer Choice’ at the AutoExpo in 2018. It is a marker of the “highest level of safety.”
Criteria For A Safer Choice Award
According to the GNCAP, there are several criteria a car must pass before being qualified for a ‘Safer Choice’ Award.
Firstly, the car MUST achieve a 5-star rating for Adult Occupant Protection and at least a 4-star rating for Child Occupant Protection. It should also offer ESC as a stand-alone feature and should be equipped on at least 20% of the cars sold in the country two years after the model went on sale. It should also meet the Pedestrian Protection requirements. Lastly, the vehicle must validate all of these criteria at a Global NCAP-designated laboratory.
