A couple of years back, Mahindra showcased the XUV300 Sportz concept at the Auto Expo 2020. At that time, it was told that the sportier version of the Mahindra XUV300 will come with a more powerful iteration of the 1.2-litre engine.
This uprated engine was said to produce a peak power of 130bhp and 230Nm of peak power. Now, fast forward to 2022, a leaked document reveals that the XUV300 Sportz edition will come with a 128bhp engine.
Apart from that, the Mahindra XUV300 Sportz edition will be offered in four trim levels – W4, W6, W8, and W8 (O).
Though Mahindra is yet to launch the XUV300 Sports edition, we expect the automaker to soon launch the model in India to further improve its market share in the Indian automobile market.
When launched the new Mahindra XUV300 Sportz edition will compete against the likes of Hyundai Venue 1.0 Turbo, and Kia Sonet 1.0 Turbo. However, unlike its rivals, we expect the Mahindra XUV300 Sportz edition to come with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard.
With 18bhp and 30Nm more, the upcoming Mahindra XUV300 Sportz edition will be the most powerful SUV in the sub-4-metre segment.
Looking into the earlier concept, the Mahindra XUV300 Sportz may feature red brake calipers, decals on the front and rear doors, and an all-black interior colour scheme with red accents to further accentuate the sporty theme.
At present Mahindra XUV300 comes with a choice of two engines; One petrol and one diesel engine. The petrol motor is a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder direct-injection turbocharged unit with 110bhp of peak power and 200Nm of peak torque, whereas the diesel motor is a larger 1.5-litre turbocharged unit with 116bhp of peak power and 300Nm of peak torque.
Apart from that, both these engines can be either specified to a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automated manual transmission (AMT).
At present, the Mahindra XUV300 prices start from Rs 8.41 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the base petrol variant, whereas the top-end diesel variant with AMT gearbox and dual-tone paint scheme costs Rs 13.92 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
We expect a slight bump in ex-showroom prices for the Sportz edition of the Mahindra XUV300 if Mahindra decides to launch the model in the country. Having said that, Mahindra is also gearing up for the launch of the all-new Mahindra Scorpio N this month.
The launch of the Mahindra XUV300 Sportz edition will be crucial for the brand as the popularity of the model in the sub-4m segment can significantly impact the overall sales figures of the company.
Thoughts About More Powerful XUV300
With the 128bhp petrol engine, the XUV300 will become the most powerful sub-4-metre SUV in India. That being said, the upgrade will make the XUV300 more visible on the buyer’s radar and will make it a more exciting proposition than before. We also expect Mahindra to update the SUV before launching the Sportz edition.
