The Mahindra Scorpio, alongside the Thar, has grown on to become an iconic model in the company’s line-up. Now, the SUV-maker has rolled out the new gen model, called the Scorpio-N with a range of powerful petrol and diesel engines, and a host of new technologies. The SUV has grown in size too by a fair margin though it has retained that boxy and upright look that has been a design staple of past generation models. Mahindra however hasn’t yet revealed all prices for the SUV with prices for the four-wheel drive and automatic gearbox variants to be announced on July 21 ahead of bookings opening. Also to be revealed at the time will be the prices for the top-spec six-seat model with captain chairs in the middle row.
Prices for the SUV currently range from Rs 11.99 lakh up to Rs 19.49 lakh (ex-showroom, India) with the prices only to be valid for the first 25,000 bookings once the window opens on July 30. At its current pricing, the Scorpio-N sits within the price range of the popular compact SUV space with higher variants being equivalent to the larger mid-size SUVs such as Mahindra’s own XUV700, Tata Harrier and MG Hector.

Starting with the petrol-manual model, the Scorpio-N at its introductory pricing is about Rs 1.5 lakh more expensive than the entry level Hyundai Creta petrol compact SUV. The gap stretches to almost Rs 2 lakh for the Seltos. The fully-loaded Scorpio-N though is much more expensive than the compact SUVs with the gap to the Creta particularly large as its only the naturally aspirated petrol that still gets the manual gearbox option. The Seltos meanwhile gets a manual option with the turbo-petrol mill. Compared to larger mid-size SUVs, the base Scorpio is a little over ₹ 1 lakh more affordable than its XUV700 stablemate with the latter also being more expensive on the top end as well. The Alcazar is the priciest model here though the Rs 18.99 lakh price for the top petrol-manual places it on an equal footing to the Scorpio-N.

In the comparison of diesel-manual models, the Scorpio-N again has the advantage over mid-size SUVs with a price gap of almost ₹ 1 lakh over the nearest model, the XUV700. The Alcazar has the highest starting price here though as far as the manual models go though it’s the Safari which has the priciest top variant by almost Rs 50,000. The Creta and Seltos being from a segment lower are the most affordable models here.
