The Volkswagen Polo has always been a South African favourite. An unbeaten contender in the local automotive industry as it continues to hold the title of best-seller in its category. With more than 14 million units sold around the world, the Polo is also one of the world’s most successful compact cars but a dealership in Cape Town has imparted some bespoke Mzansi magic onto one of their own with the Claremont Edition.

Like most cars, we’ve seen the Polo get better with time, the latest generation introduced an entirely new exterior design, a noticeably more spacious interior that has also been redesigned down to the last detail and a new cockpit layout structured for the digital world.
The Claremont Volkswagen dealership in Cape Town has capitalised on the best-selling capabilities of the Polo by launching its very own in-house version, aptly named the Claremont Edition. It is an aesthetics-only package that is available to customers that are interested in buying either the entry-level Polo or Life derivatives and costs roughly R23 000 on top of the purchase price.
The Claremont package includes headlights, a rear diffuser, rear spoiler, a ‘Claremont Edition’ sticker, colour-coded window visors, a front spoiler, vinyl wraps on both C-pillars, a customer’s choice of 17-inch wheels and a small drop in ride height with an OEM Eibach lowering kit. Sections like the side mirror cover and door handles are also colour-coded to the body.

According to Nur Abdurahman, New Vehicle Sales Manager at Claremont Volkswagen in Cape Town, many people have already shown interest in the special edition model, with a good number of units already finding homes.
Nur also mentioned that the packages are not fixed. This means that customers can choose what they want to be fitted or removed at the dealership if it doesn’t suit their taste – like stickers, for example. Other extras like a panoramic sunroof or side skirts could also be added to the Claremont Edition.
The Polo Vivo is also available in the ‘Claremont Edition’ guise and is significantly cheaper than the Polo (about R16 000), featuring black-coated alloy wheels, ‘Black Edition’ stickers and a sporty rear spoiler.
