Luckily, replacing a battery is not such a difficult task and doesn’t require any specialised tools. So here are a few steps for you to replace the car battery in the Volkswagen Polo 5 or the current Polo Vivo. What you need
– New Battery for your model
– 10mm socket
– 13mm socket
– Ratchet
– Rachet extension
– Gloves (optional)
Let’s jump in
Step 1: Ensure the vehicle key is in the off position. Open the bonnet and locate the battery on the right.
Step 2: Using the 10mm socket loosen off the negative terminal (indicated with ‘-‘ sign) and remove it.
Step 3: Lift the flap at the rear of the battery covering the positive terminal (indicated with ‘+’ sing). Using the 10mm socket again, undo both the screws and remove the positive terminal.
Step4: Locate the clips at the front and rear of the battery for the distribution / fuse-block and carefully undo and stow it out of the way.
Step 5: Use the 12mm socket with the ratchet and ratchet extension to loosen the plate at the base of the battery, keeping it in place.
Step 6: You can now proceed to lift out the old battery and replace it with the new battery.
Step 7: To securely install the new battery, in reverse follow the list from step 5. Be careful to not overtighten any screws.
